  1. In collaboration with physicians, assesses patient, synthesizes and analyzes data, develops plan of care, orders diagnostic tests and therapeutic treatments and evaluates clinical outcomes according to individualized* patient needs/age specific standards. 

         (*Individualized refers to the patient’s developmental, cognitive, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, and educational/family influences and physical/medical care needs.)      

  • Completes an accurate assessment of patients within assigned specialty.
  • Identifies appropriate medical diagnoses, and documents plan of care in progress notes.
  • Utilizes appropriate diagnostic tests related to patient condition, and demonstrates ability to interpret the diagnostic tests.
  • Synthesizes and analyzes data obtained through assessment to develop a comprehensive plan of care that is individualized and reflects patient care needs including interventions and treatments to attain expected outcomes.
  • Implements plan by writing appropriate medical orders in accordance with medical practice standards and/or jointly approved protocols.
  • Evaluates and revises plan as indicated by changes in patient condition or needs.
  • Communicates daily medical plan/updates to patients/parents, medical team involved, and other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Demonstrates understanding of caregiver dynamics involved in providing care to the pediatric patient.
  • Works in collaboration with nursing staff to integrate individualized nursing plans/ interdisciplinary goals in support of the medical plan of care.
  • Assesses the educational needs of patients/caregivers and develops/implements the educational plan in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

  1. Prescribes therapeutic measures and medications according to the State of Nebraska APRN statutes and Children’s Hospital Policies.  Performs select invasive procedures, as approved in his/her individual Scope of Service, according to Children’s Hospital policies.             

·Demonstrates competency in principles of medication dosing and mechanism of action as it relates to specific diagnosis.

·Orders/administers medication according to Children’s Hospital policy, procedure and scope of practice.

·Maintains accurate log of credentialed procedures performed.  Demonstrates knowledge and expertise when performing credentialed procedures/specialty skills, independently or with a physician to include:

  • Provides in-house PICC line service coverage for medical-surgical patients located in Med-Surg, PICU, ED as scheduled (CTS, PICU/ hospitalist/surgical service NP’s).
  • Hospitalist NP covers eating disorder patients as directed by hospitalists, covers house staff during clinic, resident education and post call, admission /treatment process for metabolic service.  Assists in covering for sedation services as needed.
  • Participates in preceptorship/internship of nurse practitioner students, as assigned.
  • Promotes professionalism and leadership within service team, and through interactions with patients, families, staff, colleagues, others.
  • Professionally seeks opportunities to help unit team members/department, as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Allied Health Professional, required to be credentialed.
  • Maintains practice agreement with service of specialty, and practices within framework of respective scope of practice.
  • Must be knowledgeable in billing regulation practices to include documentation requirements/CPT coding regulations.
  • Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritizing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines.
  • Legible handwriting skills.
  • Ability to be self-directed, with minimum supervision, and detail oriented.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in nursing required.
  • An Advanced Practice Registered Nurse who does not have a master’s degree or two-thousand (2,000) hours of supervised practice will be required to furnish proof of jointly approved protocols with a collaborating physician, which shall guide the nurse practitioner’s practice.
  • Current and valid Federal DEA license required.
  • Previous NICU experience preferred

 

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN-NP or APRN-PNP) in the state of NE/Compact state required
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) required to work
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
  • Current and valid Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required, within 1 year of hire.
