Job Description

Just like the children we serve, Children's is growing quickly and hiring Pharmacy Interns to perform duties under the direct supervision of a staff pharmacist and/or Pharmacy Administrative Team and within the scope of practice as defined by the State of Nebraska.  Duties may include: accurate and timely medication purchasing, preparation, labeling and delivery; maintenance of appropriate and accurate stock supplies and medication inventory levels in designated areas, assistance in administrative support and contributes to maintaining a cooperative work environment.

Essential Functions/Competencies

  1. Responsible for accurately preparing, labeling, obtaining pharmacist verification and delivering medications in a timely manner.

25%

  1. Aseptically prepares, labels and obtains pharmacist verification sterile product medication in a consistent, accurate and timely manner including TPN solutions, ready-to-administer products, and large volume parenterals.  Follows pharmaceutical production standards of practice as developed by the department and consistent with national standards.

15%

  1. Addresses customer service issues in a timely manner, including answering phones, directing calls, greeting visitors, and responding to general questions in the Pharmacy.

  1. Proficient utilization of automated dispensing machines, including loading, refills, outdating, report generation, inventory and basic maintenance.

10%

  1. Responsible for maintaining established stock levels of medications within the pharmacy as well as other patient care areas.

5%

  1. Updates charges/credits of returned medications when appropriate. Processes patient charges/credits on a daily basis and generates manual charges/credits when necessary.

  1. Appropriately manages technology in the day-to-day completion of assigned responsibilities..
    1. BAXA compounder setup and trouble shooting
    2. Basic pyxis function
    3. Electronic variance reporting system
    4. MILT medication labeling system
    5. Retrieval of Policy and Procedures from the Intranet
    6. Electronic drug information resources
    7. Microsoft Outlook
    8. Sunrise Medication Manger

 

Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Mathematical skills necessary for algebraic conversions, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Verbal and written communication skills sufficient/necessary to receive and deliver information accurately among pharmacy staff and others.
  • Previous experience in health care area, unit dose and sterile medication preparation helpful but not required.
  • Experience with typing keyboard/computer helpful.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Enrolled in an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with good academic standing required.

 

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current and valid Pharmacy Intern licensure with the State of Nebraska required.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successful completion of security check in compliance with requirements set by the State of Nebraska required.
