Job Description

Just like the children we serve, Children's is growing quickly and hiring a Medical Assistant for our Specialty Pediatric Clinics Flex Team. Medical Assistant will be responsible for providing clinical services to patients in a variety of specialty clinics throughout the Specialty Pediatric Center, as well as performing administrative duties.  Responsible for providing both administrative and clinical services to patients in the specialty clinics.

Carry out CLINICAL duties according to standard operating procedures and scope of practice to include, but not limited to:

  1. Prepares patients for examinations by performing routine patient screenings prior to provider seeing the patient while facilitating clinic work flow.
  2. Informs the patient/family whenever there is a delay
  3. Assists the physician with exams when necessary.
  4. Collects phlebotomy and other lab specimens based on departmental need.
  5. Performs basic lab tests per protocol and/or order, based on departmental need.
  6. Assists with specialty specific procedures as delegated by RN.
  7. Maintain clinic exam rooms.
  8. Clean exam rooms after each patient in preparation for next patient.
  9. Maintains supplies in exam rooms specific to clinic specialty.
  10. Employs professional telephone and interpersonal communication techniques.
  11. Performs accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
  12. Complies with performance improvement practices.
  13. Contacts patients and families of normal lab results as delegated by RN.
  14. Schedules procedures/diagnostic testing as delegated by RN.
  15. Completes Prior Authorization request for medications and equipment.
  16. Abstracts lab results from outside facilities as delegated by RN.
  17. Facilitates registration and utilization of Children’s Connect.
  18. Provides instructions on basic equipment based on departmental need.

  1. Orders and maintains appropriate levels of supplies and equipment based on departmental need.
  2. Demonstrates communication skills using appropriate medical terminology.
  3. Schedules/coordinates and monitors patient appointments.
  4. Performs general office duties based on departmental needs.

 

Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Skill in effective written and verbal communication to interact with varying levels of CHS staff
  • Skill in typing and usage of computer
  • Knowledge of basic office equipment including a multi-line phone system
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program required

     

    CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required
  • Current and valid Medical Assistant (AAMA) certification preferred
  • Current and valid Medication Aide Registration with the Nebraska State Medication Aide Registry required, within 90 days of hire
