Essential Functions/Competencies

  1. Responsible for accurately preparing, labeling, delivering medications in a timely manner.

20%

  1. Aseptically prepares and labels sterile product medication in a consistent, accurate and timely manner including TPN solutions, ready-to-administer products, and large volume parenterals.  Follows pharmaceutical production standards of practice as developed by the department and consistent with national standards.

15%

  1. Addresses customer service issues in a timely manner, including answering phones, directing calls, greeting visitors, and responding to questions in the Pharmacy.

  1. Proficient utilization of automated dispensing machines, including loading, refills, outdating, report generation, inventory and basic maintenance

  1. Responsible for maintaining established stock levels of medications within the pharmacy as well as other patient care areas.

  1. Updates charges/credits of returned medications when appropriate. Processes patient charges/credits on a daily basis and generates manual charges/credits when necessary.

  1. Appropriately manages technology in the day-to-day delivery of pharmaceutical care.
    1. BAXA compounder setup and trouble shooting
    2. Basic pyxis function
    3. Electronic variance reporting system
    4. MILT medication labeling system
    5. Retrieval of Policy and Procedures from the Intranet
    6. Electronic drug information resources

 

Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Mathematical skills necessary for algebraic conversions, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Verbal and written communication skills sufficient/necessary to receive and deliver information accurately among pharmacy staff and others.
  • Previous experience in health care area or unit dose medication preparation helpful but not required.
  • Good typing keyboard/computer skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Experience working a hospital pharmacy setting preferred

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current and valid certification as a Pharmacy Technician preferred

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successful completion of security check in compliance with requirements set by the State of Nebraska required.
  • Current and valid registration with the State of Nebraska required, within 30 days of hire.
