Job Description

Just like the children we serve, Children's is growing quickly and hiring an Optometrist for our new mobile vision unit. Provide visual examinations, including those conducted to identify the presence of pathology. Conduct detection and differential diagnosis of abnormal visual, ocular and/or systematic conditions. Provide complete high quality optometric/vision care services.

Children’s is teaming with Building Healthy Futures, a nonprofit that addresses the needs of Omaha’s most underserved children, by operating a mobile pediatric vision van, which will serve Omaha Public Schools (OPS) students starting in early 2018. The program, which will serve more than 10,000 learners in OPS who have undiagnosed and untreated vision problems, will include an optometrist, an optician, care coordinator and van driver.

 

Essential Functions/Competencies

  1. Provides treatment of the visual system within the scope of optometric licensure, including writing prescriptions for ophthalmic spectacles, contact lenses, orthoptics and non-optical aids. Provides additional specialized testing and therapy, as needed
  • Maintains compliance with all current organizational, state and federal regulations pertaining to Optometry.
  • Provides and assures that patients receive appropriate routine eye exams and urgent care, as well as other vision care that is appropriate in the care setting
  • Explains results and action plan to parents, teachers.
  • Assures that referrals are made in a timely manner to specialists or other providers when medically necessary
  • Assures that the patient's treatment is monitored and coordinated
  • Assures that the documentation of care as represented in the medical records meets established standards of quality
  • Acts as a day-to-day resource to mobile vision van staff and Ophthalmology department regarding vision care issues.
  • Works cooperatively with the other members of the Clinic management team to assure a smooth Mobile vision Clinic operation and on all patient care issues
  • Coach and develop all team members to create efficient patient flow.
  • Assists in responding to patient concerns about care issues and works to solve problems and improve patient care
  • Assists in the preparation, investigation, and follow-up of incident reports
  • Develops vision care protocols, policies and procedures to assure compliance with accepted standards of quality
  • Assists in the promotion of the Mobile vision/medical Clinic

 

Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Graduate of an accredited college or university in the school of Optometry required.
  • Previous experience working in pediatrics preferred.
  • Previous experience in customer service preferred.

 

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current and valid state license as an Optometrist  required
