This position is responsible for all accounting functions related to health products with attached reinsurance contracts. This role is also responsible for reinsurance contract and treaty compliance with 3rd party reinsurers, as it relates to financial obligations. The incumbent will work with internal and external contacts on items related to settlement or reconciliation of outstanding balances.  They will prepare various monthly bordereaux/cash and account reconciliations, and work with external and internal auditors on audit requirements.

What you'll do:

  • Responsible for reconciliation of reinsurers reporting to internal systems and reports. Perform daily and monthly general ledger and bank account reconciliations. Prepare and post monthly adjusting entries as necessary.
  • Review reinsurance contracts and treaties to assure that external Reinsurers and Managing General Agents (MGAs) are complying with contractual obligations. Work directly with MGAs and Reinsurers to ensure the timely collection of monies due to the Company. Follow-up on settlement of overdue account receivable balances and missing accounts. Identify trends, evaluate data quality and focus on timely cash flow.
  • Validate that system produced gross premium and losses are ceding properly to reinsurers. Participate in the preparation of monthly and quarterly internal and external reports. Assist in the preparation of Ceded Schedule S.
  • Maintain data files and reports to support internal and external audit controls. Participate in audits and projects as it relates to 3rd party reinsurance related to Health products.

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting and 3+ years of accounting experience (preferably in health insurance) An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for this requirement.

The strongest candidates for this position will also possess:

  • 3+ years experience in resinusrance accounting
  • Knowledge of insurance business, health insurance
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
  • Demonstrated experience in performing issue research and resolution
  • Ability to communicate effectively and cooperate with others within and outside the company
  • Demonstrating problem solving and analytical abilities
