Job Description

The incumbent has responsibility to lead a team of print technicians in operating digital printing and other production equipment to create a variety of printed materials in meeting daily production and print-on-demand (POD) printing needs.  They will be responsible for ensuring all documents are printed using the most current version of the forms. The incumbent must have the ability to manipulate various design software packages to make projects print ready. Will establish and maintain positive relationships with all necessary vendors.  Assist with employee performance reviews. Provide management with weekly, monthly and quarterly production reports. 

What you'll do:

  • Provide Daily Production and POD Printing Services to include reviewing and assess print requests to coordinate requirements with requesters and determine appropriate printing methods and systems to be used.  Assign workflow priority and monitor project progress, quality and accuracy to assure compliance with requirements. Understand and configure production printing equipment, software applications, print drivers and networking options to process print projects for production and POD jobs. Perform electronic pre-press setup and submission of POD printing projects for processing using desktop publishing software applications (i.e., Adobe Design Suite, MS Office Suite, etc.).  Work with electronic publishing department (ePublishing) in collaboration with processing all network production printing.
  • Manage Paper Media Inventory levels, storage space, and shipping/receiving records. Manage cost effective media purchasing thru the procurement system. Manage relationship and media pricing agreements with paper vendors.  Maintain media spreadsheet of negotiated vendor pricing.
  • Maintain Fleet of Production Printing and Finishing Equipment by training staff to maintain all print shop equipment by performing preventative maintenance, making adjustments, minor equipment repairs and contacting vendor service technicians for major repairs. Manage stocked parts and accessories inventory (ink, toner, drums, etc.). Manage shipping dock area, pallet jacks, ink/waste disposal and MSDS paperwork.  Manage vendor relationship and equipment service agreements/POs to ensure proper contractual preventative and service maintenance is being performed by vendors.
  • Provide Backup Support for the Forms Management Specialist by providing accurate forms management for marketing documents and other printed material. Provide 1st level support to maintain the fleet of walk-up copiers, includes minor travel.  Collect meter counts to provide monthly reports to management and accounting department on walk-up copiers.
  • Provide weekly, monthly and quarterly reports on all print ship equipment to management
  • Proactively seek out ways to enhance your skillset and deepen your knowledge.  Attend webinars, subscribe to trade journals or taking classes. 
  • Build and maintain a strong working relationship with the Visual Communications to assist them with understanding and designing marketing materials according to the specifications of print shop equipment capabilities.

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • Associates degree in Graphics or Printing Technology and three years of experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for this requirement.
  • Standard working knowledge of graphic design and desktop publishing software (QuarkXpress, Adobe Design Suite, Adobe Acrobat DC, Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Standard working knowledge of Pre-Press setup.
  • Experience in collaborating with multiple departments and all levels of management.

The strongest candidates for this position will also possess:

  • Four color digital printing technology
  • Electronic pre-press setup processing using desktop publishing software applications (i.e., Adobe Design Suite, MS Office Suite, etc.)
  • Standard media paper types, weights, sizes and finishes
  • Experience on a variety of high-speed digital printing production equipment
  • Experience in print shop operations, finishing techniques and current trends in printing and finishing technologies
  • Standard desktop publishing software applications
