Job Description

Do you have strong feelings about the use (or lack thereof) of the oxford comma? Do you consider it breaking news when the AP Stylebook changes one of its rules? Do you live for sculpting the perfect headline to top off a piece of work? If so, this may be the position for you. We are looking for a detail-oriented, self-motivated, linguistically savvy individual to join our team – basically, a copywriter who can write great content in a way that blends strategic and creative thinking to develop copy that makes an impact. In this role, you’ll be responsible for creating content for marketing materials, advertisements, RFPs and other sales and business-driving collateral. This is what we work on today, but each day is different and new projects are plentiful. We are a get-your-hands-dirty and celebrate each other’s wins kind of a place. What you’ll do:

  • Write a broad range of creative and fresh content, using a distinct brand tone and voice that is nuanced to speak to various target audiences (multiple accents not necessary) 
  • Bring logic, strategic thinking and knowledge of business insights to the creative table when sculpting content 
  • Collaborate with designers, brand management and other team members to develop the creative and execute projects 
  • Be responsible for writing effective copy across traditional, digital and social media channels, as well as public relations, advertising, training and communication initiatives (i.e. digital ads, promotional pieces, landing pages, infographics, publications articles, sales and RFP support, employee brand initiatives, recruitment, company website, etc.)
  • Align copy with brand strategy and utilize brand voice for consistency across a wide variety of audiences (i.e. group leaders, brokers, health care professionals, members, consumers, employees)
  • Interpret creative briefs and discuss the internal client’s strategic needs to attain a thorough understanding of business/marketing issues and the communication request
  • Organize, prioritize and multi-task a variety of writing assignments under pressure, with an eye for consistent, error-free messaging
  • Demonstrate knowledge of customer segments, personas and other various demographics for targeting specific audiences with relevant information in a meaningful way
  • Continually research and synthesize information and translate complex, clinical copy into plain, health-literate language
  • Develop copy for compliant, compelling and persuasive RFPs
  • Be responsible for the editing and proofing of materials throughout the process 

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Advertising/PR or related field
  • Five or more years of experience in a copywriting position
  • A strong vocabulary with expertise in English usage 
  • A self-starter personality with enthusiastic, “heck yeah” attitude in accepting work and new challenges 
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate comments and edits in a timely and intelligent manner
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a time-sensitive environment and meet all deadlines
  • Thorough understanding of SEO, writing for digital media as well as sales pieces, RFPs, all channels of advertising, publications, and internal/external communications
  • Conscientious work ethic
  • Ability to write quality copy while observing and managing deadlines and remaining flexible to ever-changing timelines, requests, and deliverables 
  • Ability to quickly pick-up topics and independently research material as needed 
  • Skilled in problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking 
  • High level of organization and attention to detail 
  • Desire to grow within the position and stay up-to-date on emerging trends in our industry

The strongest candidates for this position will also possess:

  • Experience in medical or health care writing
