Job Description
In this role, you will serve on a highly collaborative team delivering infrastructure technology solutions for BCBSNE.  On this Agile team you will be focused on analyzing, engineering, implementing, administering and troubleshooting our infrastructure technology.  The scope of this position will also include effectively partnering with existing and prospective vendors.  You will be expected to support your team in Agile ceremonies and processes such as release planning, sprint planning, story writing, standups, retrospectives, etc.  This highly empowered team environment will grant you great freedom to achieve while also demanding a high level of responsibility.

 

What you'll do:

1. Analyze complex technical solutions with no mentoring while collaborating and sharing knowledge with team members.  Span multiple technologies within the team tech stack and effectively multi-task across projects.  Follow best practices as defined by the team or Community of Practice (CoP).  Provide leadership both within and across teams in the space of infrastructure analysis.  Understand how our technology empowers the business.  Be a role model of technical aptitude, leadership and core values.

2. Engineer complex technical solutions with no mentoring while collaborating and sharing knowledge with team members.  Span multiple technologies within the team tech stack and effectively multi-task across projects.  Follow best practices as defined by the team or Community of Practice (CoP).  Provide leadership both within and across teams in the space of infrastructure engineering.  Understand how our technology empowers the business.  Be a role model of technical aptitude, leadership and core values.

3. Implement complex technical solutions with no mentoring while collaborating and sharing knowledge with team members.  Span multiple technologies within the team tech stack and effectively multi-task across projects.  Follow best practices as defined by the team or Community of Practice (CoP).  Provide leadership both within and across teams in the space of infrastructure implementation and code deployment.  Collaborate with Service and Delivery teams in defining, influencing and supporting best practices in code deployment including auto deployment packages and change control.  Understand how our technology empowers the business.  Be a role model of technical aptitude, leadership and core values.

4. Administer complex technical solutions with no mentoring while collaborating and sharing knowledge with team members.  Span multiple technologies and effectively multi-task across projects.  Follow best practices as defined by the team or Community of Practice (CoP).  Provide leadership both within and across teams in the space of infrastructure administration.  Understand how our technology empowers the business.  Be a role model of technical aptitude, leadership and core values.

5. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges with no mentoring while collaborating and sharing knowledge with team members.  Span multiple technologies identified on the team tech stack and effectively multi-task.  Follow best practices as defined by the team or Community of Practice (CoP).  Provide leadership both within and across teams in the space of infrastructure troubleshooting and resolution.  Understand how our technology empowers the business.  Collaborate with Service and Delivery teams to understand and support application defects and issues.  Provide leadership in collaborating and influencing Service and Delivery teams to develop software solutions with an operations mindset including scalability, supportability and automation.  Partner with Service, Delivery and Enterprise Architecture in developing software solutions that are operationally sustainable.  Be a role model of technical aptitude, leadership and core values. 

6. Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to understand system requirements.  Work with the team to decompose work and create or enhance stories and tasks.

7. Demonstrate the behaviors of Level II and advocate and influence the team to ensure stories and tasks align with Product Owner expectations, as well as Enterprise Architecture and is operationally sustainable.

8. Support and believe in the value of sharing standards and best practices with the CoP and Enterprise.  Embrace the CoP as an important part in developing our collaborative and innovative culture.

9. Active participation in a CoP that is aligned to your career goals and expectations to enhance skills, share knowledge gained and mentor peers. Demonstrate leadership within the CoP.   Support and follow the CoP standards and best practices. Actively lead the review of current standards and best practices and evolve the standards and best practices as needed by the enterprise.  Influence the CoP and the Enterprise in making recommendations. 

To be considered for the System Engineer II position, you must have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or MIS and three years’ experience within the team technical stack and expert knowledge in some areas of the team tech stack.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted to meet this requirement.
  • Demonstrated experience in a Microsoft infrastructure environment.
  • Understanding of various infrastructure administration tools, services and architectures. Understanding of virtual infrastructure environments and management of those environments.
  • Understanding of infrastructure as a service- private, public and hybrid cloud.
  • Working knowledge implementing and administering engineering solutions including using tools from our technology stack.
  • The ability to meet or exceed the attendance and timeliness requirements of their departments.
  • The ability to work well in a team environment, and be capable of building and maintaining positive relationships with other staff, departments, and customers.

To be considered for the System Engineer III position, you must have:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or MIS and five years’ experience in infrastructure engineering. Demonstrated aptitude for technical problem solving, abstract and logical thinking and collaboration.  Demonstrated leadership capabilities. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted to meet this requirement.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, building and transforming a Microsoft infrastructure environment
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, administering and modernizing virtual infrastructure environments
  • Demonstrated experience designing multiple infrastructure administration systems, tools, services and architectures
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, administering and modernizing virtual infrastructure environments
  • Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, administering and modernizing infrastructure as a service environments- private, public and hybrid cloud
  • Working knowledge designing, implementing and administering engineering solutions including using tools from our technology stack
  • The ability to meet or exceed the attendance and timeliness requirements of their departments.
  • The ability to work well in a team environment, and be capable of building and maintaining positive relationships with other staff, departments, and customers.
