The Senior Accountant role is an important part of our financial support services team that provides financial and accounting services to our publicly traded fund (ATAX).  Responsibilities include monthly financial reporting for various subsidiaries, processing corporate transactions, maintaining internal control and assisting with regular SEC reporting.  As a direct report of the Corporate Controller to ATAX, this position will be expected to gain an understanding of all operations of our Company’s publicly traded fund and use that understanding to provide relevant information for management, business partners and investors.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:                                                                     

  1. Prepare daily and monthly period close accounting records for supervisor review.
  2. Prepare internal financial statements, reports and records by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information including general ledger(s) maintenance, completing account reconciliations,  and budget to actual analysis.
  3. Maintain financial security by researching financial reconciliation discrepancies, verifying documents, and following prescribed internal controls and policies.
  4. Contributes and communicates to create a team environment by accomplishing tasks as needed and communicating project status to the Controller/Supervisor/co-workers. Tasks would include, but not limited to, special projects such as internal audits, special transaction research, preparing management reports, and maintaining required report templates.
  5. Assist with the preparation and review of filings with the SEC.
  6. Assist with annual budget and forecasts.
  7. Responding to and providing information to external auditors during quarterly reviews, the annual audit, and internal controls testing.
  8. Continuously identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance the quality, reliability, relevance, timeliness and accuracy of financial information.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required
  • Minimum three years of relevant experience required, public accounting experience preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred, but not required
  • Previous experience with GAAP financial statements required and familiarity with SEC reporting a plus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency with financial accounting systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills are required
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner when dealing with employees, vendors and company contacts
  • Ability to meet required deadlines
