Must have completed an accredited school of nursing with a current state license in order to have the necessary basic knowledge necessary to perform patient care during cardiac caths (e.g., CPR, IVs, etc.).
After 2 years of employment, strongly encouraged to pursue certification in specialty area.
After 2 years of employment, encouraged to pursue BSN degree (if an ADN or Diploma RN)
At least two years nursing experience required with one of those being in critical care nursing in order to have the skills needed to deal with patients in life-threatening situations.
Interpersonal skills necessary to gather and exchange information with physicians, patient, family and other hospital personnel, and teach patient and family pre-and post- cath care.
Analytical skills necessary to develop and implement effective nursing care and problem-solving measures for patients physical, psychosocial and spiritual well being.
Able to concentrate and pay attention to detail up to 60% of work time when administering medications, monitoring patients during procedures, documenting patients medical record, and so forth.
