Position Purpose:  

The Vice President of Operations/COO will oversee the successful implementation of AIM’s programs to grow a strong and diverse tech community ensuring alignment with the vision and mission of the organization. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the VP/COO is responsible for leading and managing a comprehensive array of services and programs and will lead 2-4 directors and up to 20 staff. The VP/COO will be responsible for evaluating and improving AIM’s model programs and creating continuity in service across the organization and within the tech educational ecosystem. 

The VP/COO will partner with peers—the Vice President of Advancement and Director of Operations to effectively manage and maximize resources related to information technology, administration, compliance, fundraising, accounting, and corporate communications—while also being responsible for all program planning, organizing, operating, and staffing. The VP/COO is responsible for ensuring that AIM’s services comply with all federal, state, funding, and city regulations, certifications, and licensing requirements. Finally, the VP/COO will assist the senior leadership team in planning, organizing, and implementing public and private fund-raising initiatives.

This individual will set the direction for all programs, the department, and its employees. The incumbent will take ownership of the quality and improvement of programs including all processes, content, curriculum, and products by continuously learning and analyzing program evaluation data. This executive track position will lead by example by adhering to best practices, and organizational policy, and by setting clear expectations that are transparently communicated. 

This position is a hybrid and will require both virtual and on-site availability as instructed by your direct supervisor. There will be no set schedule for working virtually or on-site and the incumbent will need to be flexible.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Provide effective and inspiring leadership by being actively involved in all programs and services. Implement and lead a continuous quality improvement process throughout the program and service areas, focusing on systems/process improvement. Promote regular and ongoing opportunities for all staff to give feedback on program operations.
  • Lead a high-performing team of regional and program directors to the next level by further developing and implementing recruitment, training, and retention strategies.
  • Creates, evaluates, and continually improves model programs for growing the tech talent community.
  • Keeps programs on track through fiscal management and monitoring team performance
  • Coaches, supervises and guides directors and team leads 
  • Coordinates academic support programs and establishes priorities
  • Develops strategies to recruit students from the target populations
  • Coordinates data and record management and establishes policies and procedures
  • Creates effective relationships with partners, faculty, staff, and administrators
  • Partners with organizations to promote tech careers, especially those that have an impact on underrepresented populations.
  • Designs a comprehensive evaluation program to assess the impact of project activities and services.
  • Communicate and advocate for the AIM Brand
  • Engage in the tech community including attending and hosting events on behalf of AIM
  • Be an expert in the tech industry
  • Develop the core positioning and messaging for the programs

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:  

  • Must have substantial knowledge of, and professional experience in, a technology field or teaching technology curriculum. 
  • 10 years experience in the IT field.
  • Will consider an equivalent combination of advanced degrees and experience provided the candidate has worked in private industry as a technologist or IT leader and must have demonstrable IT industry knowledge.
  • Prefer experience managing programs in a directly related field or position.
  • Minimum five years experience in management level at a similar organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams. 
  • Skill in working with groups to build consensus
  • Ability to create new work processes
  • Effective communication, negotiation, and mediation skills
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Must work well independently and be able to coordinate time efficiently
