Project Director, Grant Program (UB - Abraham Lincoln High)

AIM is seeking an experienced project director for the Upward Bound grant program at Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

This position is full-time and year-round, may include evenings and weekends and has a tentative start date of September 2, 2019. 

The Upward Bound program works with low-income, first-generation students to prepare them for college entrance by providing them with opportunities through mentoring, work-study programs, and financial or education counseling. This role has responsibilities in maintaining and developing relationships between AIM/the UB program, the students we serve, and community leaders/administrators; managing budgets; building awareness; supervising and coaching coordinators, tutors, and mentors; and providing presentations to support our relationships in the community.

The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in an academic environment, familiarity with grants (writing and administration), and has a personality that reflects AIM's core values: brilliant, engaging, resourceful, and tech-savvy.  


  • Coordinating academic support program and establishing priorities
  • Developing strategies to recruit students from the target populations
  • Communicating regularly with District and School staff, college and universities
  • Coordinating data and record management and establishing policies and procedures
  • Creating effective relationships with faculty, staff, and administrators
  • Partnering with campus units and organizations to promote increased retention and graduation
  • Maintaining relationships with other organizations that have an impact on low-income, first-generation college students, serving as a liaison to the Department of Education; and designing a comprehensive evaluation program to assess the impact of project activities and services

Other duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating all project programming aligned with the AIM Youth Team Standard Operating Procedures (i.e., recruitment and selection of participants, outreach activities, promotional material, assessment, and evaluation)
  • Managing project planning, development, and management of day-to-day operations for one or more Upward Bound Grant programs
  • Ensuring that Upward Bound meets established objectives within federal guidelines
  • Supervising, training, and coaching assigned personnel while adhering to organizational human resource policies and procedures as well as related employment laws
  • Managing project budget and maintaining appropriate program records and conducting annual performance reviews
  • Building areawide awareness and understanding of Upward Bound and the AIM Institute by providing presentations and networking to establish strong working relationships with community leaders, supporters, and staff in a manner that best serves participants' interests

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

  • Must possess required skills and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Maintaining an established work schedule, to include some evenings and weekends.
  • Must be collaborative and an effective team member and team builder.
  • Possesses exceptional interpersonal, counseling, communication, organization, and facilitation skills.


  • Master’s Degree in Education, Administration, Human Services, Social Work, Counselor Education, or related field (Preferred)
  • Bachelor’s Degree with comparable experience working within an educational setting (required)
  • 3 - 5 years of experience working with disadvantaged student
  • 3 - 5 years of progressively responsible experience with youth programs
  • Background similar to the target population strongly preferred
