Director of Software Engineering and Project Management

The College of Information Science and Technology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha invites applications for a Director of Software Engineering and Project Management. This position serves as the lead for all software engineering projects in the Center for Management of Information Technology (CMIT). The Director is responsible for planning and implementing all community outreach support projects; developing proposals and negotiating contracts for services with community agencies; managing server environments and related accounts for testing, staging, and deployment of software projects; and supervising and training student workers involved in outreach projects.

In addition to serving as a manager and mentor to undergraduate and graduate students on a variety of projects, this position requires strong skills in the following areas: software analysis and design, technologies such as Javascript, HTML, CSS, PHP, Python, and .NET, customer-facing communication, agile methods, virtual server environments, cost estimation and budgeting, and an understanding of cybersecurity challenges. Additional desired skills include experience working with student teams, ability to delegate and supervise multiple projects, ability to develop and write short proposals and reports, a basic understanding of contracting, and an interest and acumen to learn new technologies and teach them to students. The director reports to the Associate Dean of the College of Information Science and Technology.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science, Management information Systems, or similar field
  • 3-5 years technical experience
  • 1-2 years technical project management experience
