Job Description

* SECTION I - POSITION PURPOSE (why position exists)

This position is fully accountable for the management and day to day operations for all of the processes and personnel in the Covenant Transport Group (“CTG”) Incident Response Center (“IRC”) as well as ongoing project development and implementation associated with IRC accountabilities. 

* SECTION II – DIMENSIONS (breadth and scope of duties)

This position will be responsible for ensuring that the IRC is operating within the parameters set forth by the CTG Risk Department. The scope and duties of this position include but are not limited to staffing, training, policy and procedure compliance, auditing, and emergency response coordination.  The IRC Manager is expected to train, provide tools, and lead personal in such a way as to empower them to apply critical thinking.

* SECTION III - ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (list individual job duties and the percentage of time spent on each)

  • Manage Department of Transportation (“DOT”)/ Blood/Alcohol Testing (“BAT”) Statistics and compliance as required by federal regulations.
  • Manage the intake, investigation, and documentation of motor vehicle accidents (MVAs), Workers Compensation Injuries, Overage, Shortage, and Damage (OS&D), cargo or equipment thefts and other incidents being reported to the IRC.
  • Assist the Claims Department on accident and/or incident investigations as needed.
  • Responsible for conducting investigations (including employee interviews)
  • Responsible for compliance auditing involving IRC Staff on response and investigation procedures.
  • Foster and maintain business relationships with other department managers within the operating companies.
  • Participate in conducting training sessions with new hire employees and refresher training for both IRC and non-departmental staff.
  • Review and revise IRC Policies and Procedures to ensure on-going continuous improvement.
  • Maintain department Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics.
  • Assist with Sales and Marketing Tours of the IRC to cover the success of the department with vendors or potential customers.
  • Develop statistical data to analyze and report to management to show trends involving theft and/or accidents as required.
  • Other duties as required


* SECTION IV - KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE (should be minimum qualifications needed for the position)

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Three or more years with conducting formal investigations preferred.
  • Certification in Wicklander-Zulawski Interviewing Method and/or Reid Interviewing Technique preferred.
  • Three or more years of successful management/supervisory experience encompassing process development and implementation as well as employee reviews, hiring, and termination related functions. 
  • Experience managing a 24/7/365 staff structure preferred.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and electronically.
  • Ability to work nights, evenings, and weekends when required and be on call.
  •  Ability to evaluate circumstances and make timely decisions based on company policies and procedures.
  • Experience in developing and implementing training programs for the department.
  • Transportation experience preferred.
  • Organization, detail-oriented, and ability to handle multiple projects required.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
