Job Description



The Orientation Instructor’s primary function is to facilitate and provide instruction to personnel in the specialty and technical skills and abilities required to operate and maintain Covenant Transport commercial vehicles.



  • Conduct training in accordance with Department of Transportation Regulations (DOT) and Covenant Transport policy and procedures.
  • Monitor student progress throughout the course of training and provide remedial training on an as-needed basis.
  • Introduce all Company policies and procedures to drivers by relating to them in a positive and professional manner at all times.
  • Assist Orientation director as needed
  • Stays abreast of current policies and procedures to ensure up to date knowledge and training procedures
  • Assist with daily operations of orientation to include training and motivation of drivers
  • Assist transporting drivers to and from the Hutchins, Texas orientation classroom
  • Assure all orientation supplies are stocked and prepared for drivers.
  • Conduct orientation classes per the determined schedule.
  • Facilitate any all administrative functions for personnel paperwork, benefits paperwork and DOT paperwork.
  • Maintain a classroom schedule which allows all necessary activities are completed drivers complete orientation in a timely manner.
  • Visit truck driving school located on the Hutchins’s terminal property and make presentations with the intent to hire qualified graduate students.
  • Participate with the school in job fairs, truck shows, and advertising.
  • All other duties as required.


  • HS diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 1 year of transportation experience required.
  • Two or more years as instructor or corporate trainer.
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals from different backgrounds
  • Proficient in multi-tasking
  • Prior transportation experience a plus
  • Be able to translate Federal and State regulations as well as Covenant Transport policy relating to training of drivers.
  • Highly organized detailed oriented and exceptional communication skills. 
  • Familiar with computers and use of internet, e-mail and personnel related software programs
