Job Description

Position Purpose

The Director of Strategic Accounts is responsible for managing a single client or a group of clients. This role is to support and manage CTS’s 3PL customer and vendor relationships, while developing additional revenue for CTS and value for assigned customers. This role will take the lead in providing service data and analysis to execute the most cost efficient modes of transportation, based on service level requirements and customer needs.



Position Responsibilities


  • Serve as primary liaison on behalf of assigned customers with other CTS departments and job functions.
  • Develop and maintain positive communication with customers, both internally and externally.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with other CTS functional units.
  • Manage costs and labor associated with the clients account needs.
  • Manage and resolve issues that may arise in the normal course of executing the customers’ business.
  • Identify on-going value creation opportunities for the customer and CTS.
  • Proactively develop, deploy, and collect feedback on Standard Operating procedures for all relevant aspects of the client’s business.
  • Work with the Business Intelligence team on reporting development and analysis to determine optimal solutions to meet the customer’s supply chain needs.
  • Create processes to proactively communicate relevant tactical information both internally and externally (CTS team and client). Information may include, but is not limited to: route changes, late/early shipments, pricing impacts, cost overruns, etc.
  • Responsible for forecasting contribution target goals for assigned accounts.
  • Responsible for driving initiatives with the client and internal CTS personnel to meet the contribution budget targets.
  • Plan and conduct meetings with team to ensure compliance with established practices, to implement new policies, and keep employees abreast of current changes and standards. 
  • Initiate various personnel actions including, but not limited to: hiring, conducting performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules, and training new employees.
  • Perform initial interviews for team and assist the VP of Supply Chain in final hiring decisions and onboarding.
  • Document and perform regular performance reviews with direct reports.
  • Provide coaching and constructive feedback that results in the continued development of direct reports
  • Coordinate and attend customer entertainment events as needed.
  • Travel to clients’ locations and conduct meetings as needed.
  • Work at the direction of VP of Supply Chain on special projects and other assignments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned







  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrates a high level of customer service and strong communication and interpersonal skills (both listening and speaking).
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills (record keeping, time management, follow up, etc.)
  • Excellent attention to detail and sense of urgency, ability to prioritize with an emphasis on quality of work
  • Use of MS Office or Windows based software required.
  • Use of other software may be required.



  • Minimum 3-5 years’ previous experience in 3PL/ Outsourced Transportation preferred.
  • Generally requires a Four Year Degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics or other related field
