Position Purpose

  • This individual will serve as a primary instructor/trainer within Covenant’s “Parker Development Program”.  Utilizing their professional driving experience, they will coach and mentor participants to successfully execute a series of advanced driving maneuvers. This position plays a pivotal part in helping to improve the professional driver’s handling of the vehicle which will result in a reduction in number of backing accidents that the company experiences.  The position is responsible for direct communication and daily interaction with our professional drivers.


Position Responsibilities


  • Have a calm, patient, and pleasant demeanor at all times to provide an atmosphere that is conducive for learning.
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in the area of safely operating a commercial motor vehicle and as such contribute to the development of relevant course content for various training programs.  Facilitate training sessions with participants and answer any questions that arise.
  • Directly coach and mentor participants on best practices on how to operate the CMV to successfully complete the skills course.
  • Assist in the daily set up and maintenance of the driving skills courses.
  • Provide continuous improvement coaching for participants including the daily formation of a skills improvement plan for the following day.  Assist in the collection of relevant data for performance times in relation to established key performance indicators. .
  • Assist in conducting any student driver road tests and backing tests needed for various programs throughout Covenant Transport.  These skills tests are to be performed in conformance with established guideline.
  • Work collaboratively with all internal departments to ensure the skills tests, course objectives, and training content is up to date and relevant for the needs of the business. 
  • Administer and execute professional driving simulations for any professional drivers and students required to complete this training.
  • Accept other duties as may be assigned.
  • Be innovative by continually looking for new ways to improve efficiencies or impactful ways of addressing ongoing work processes and challengs. Then present them to management for consideration.  



Position Requirements


  • Must hold a current CDL license


  • Prefer at least 5 years in the trucking industry.


  • Experience Training and coaching others in the safe operation of a Commercial Vehicle.
  • Prefer a minimum of 2 years with Covenant Transport.
  • Proficiency in Outlook, MS Word, MS Excel and Web-based software programs is preferred
  • Excellent Communication Skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a respectful and professional attitude to both drivers and management during stressful and challenging situations.
  •  Effective interpersonal skills including conflict management


  • Take-charge, solutions-minded, results oriented personality required. 


  • Safe driving record
  • In depth understanding of general safety needs and regulations preferred
  • Public speaking skills required
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects at one time.
  • Excellent problem solving skills required.
  • Must be able to lift and move heavy equipment.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of climates including being outdoors for long periods of time.
  • Ability to be on your feet for 7 hours per day.
