Position Purpose

To support Solutions growth by securing committed and ad hoc transportation capacity and service coverage for existing and new customers (year round, special projects and peak).  Work closely with Solutions Operations to ensure timely access to capacity at effective rates.   Manage the capacity and service performance of all carriers.   Work closely with carrier’s operations and sales teams to ensure Solutions capacity, service and visibility expectations are routinely met.  Provide carriers with routine performance and results updates.  Facilitate appropriate follow up discussions and actions to improve carrier performance.  Manage carrier relationships for long term business engagement.


Position Responsibilities

  • Support new carrier on boarding and orientation to ensure that new carriers are successful with Solutions.
  • Solicit capacity from existing and prospective carriers (all modes).
  • Secure capacity for required modes and equipment types. 
  • Establish year round and ad hoc pricing protocols with carriers (rate duration, renewals, escalation, etc.)
  • Negotiate pricing and related terms and conditions with carriers (routing guides, ad hoc, etc.).  To the extent appropriate, develop and execute plans to allow for routine access to capacity in a stable rate environment.
  • Work with carriers to mitigate unplanned accessorial charges (shipper/receiver interface, better planning, etc.)
  • Ensure that carriers utilize MacroPoint or otherwise provide timely shipment status visibility.
  • Work to establish a core (PAC) group of carriers as Solutions “go to” carriers (for all business).  Understand carrier’s preferred service areas and work to ensure optimal alignment to maximize access to capacity, service and cost effectiveness.
  • Monitor carrier service and capacity commitments, the latter as appropriate, and develop action plans to address and/or improver performance as required.
  • Provide routine and timely carrier performance scorecards to all carriers.
  • Develop effective working relationships with carrier personnel to support retention and volume growth.
  • Develop open and trusting relationships throughout our carrier’s organization.
  • Maintain timely and accurate information updates in all appropriate systems (TMW, CRM, etc.)
  • Work closely with Solutions operations to ensure that capacity, service and rate needs are routinely met.  Collect feedback to help drive improvement in service performance, access to capacity, customer service levels, communication and currency of information.
  • Work with Results to resolve claims disputes.  Leverage carrier relationships as appropriate.
  • Continuously analyze the Solutions network to improve carrier efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Utilize available tools (including database sources) to ensure effective and efficient carrier pricing is secured and managed on an ongoing basis.  Use same to support RFP and Bid responses.
  • Optimize the use of carriers on Solutions business to ensure the best mix of performance and margin.
  • Facilitate delivery of the Solutions’ carrier value proposition to all Solutions carriers.
  • Engage transportation industry organizations, publications and attend industry conferences to understand challenges and trends to ensure our strategies and processes consider industry influences
  • Network with industry peers to drive collaboration and best practice sharing that could benefit our network and the industry as a whole

Position Requirements

  • 5-10  Years Brokerage or Transportation Procurement Experience Preferred
  • Associates or 4 Year Degree Preferred
  • Familiar with Multiple Modes of Transportation (Reefer/Van OTR TL, LTL, Intermodal, etc.)
  • Motivated Self Starter Requiring Minimal Direction
  • Effective Communication (Written and Verbal) Skills
  • Good Organizational Skills
  • Strong Attention to Detail and Follow Through
  • Ability to Work Well as Part of a Team
  • Good Computer Skills (can quickly learn new systems, can utilize system features, diversity of systems, etc.)
  • Ability to Prioritize Workload and Meet Deadlines
  • Willingness to Work Evenings, Weekends and Holidays if Required
  • Multi-Lingual Preferred (Spanish, Russian, Languages of India, etc.)
