Position Purpose


This position Investigates and promptly responds to all assigned claims and processes all claim activity in a timely fashion.




• Completes thorough investigation of all claims, documenting all actions in electronic diary system.


• Determines and documents liability decisions, utilizing State Specific negligence theories.


• Sets appropriate Reserves on each claim documenting Probable Ultimate Cost philosophies.


• Utilize a diary system to prompt activity, determine status and ongoing plan of action. Diary system monitored through company policies and protocols.


• Ensures all claims are worked timely and all claim payments are made accurately.


• Manages all assigned vendors as required to ensure information is gathered efficiently and effectively, monitoring cost containment measures as needed.


• Responsible for Claim expense exposures, documenting the need for various services related to specific claims.


• Assigns approved vendors (adjusting, legal, etc) as required to move claims to fruition in an expeditious manner.


• Participates in Roundtable claim presentations as required.


• Manages multiple levels of internal infrastructure to control and direct files to fruition.


• Ascertains liability positions on assigned claims, resolving them according to company policies and protocols.


• Manages a revolving case load of Property, Cargo & Hazardous Materials Claims in the RISK Management Department as assigned.


• Participates as a full property claims team member working on a diary system the prompts activity to be accomplished on a daily basis.




• 4 years of related claims handling experience, a minimum of 2 of those years handling Cargo and Haz-Mat claims. Required


• 6 year college degree OR 4 additional years of claims handling experience – bringing the total years of experience to 8 years.


• Insurance Designation (AIC, SCLA, CPCU, ARM, CRM, etc.) Preferred.


• At least One State Property & Casualty Licensure in Good Standing and ability to acquire additional States.


• 2 years Project Management Experience as a team participant or team lead. Proven individual project assignment / completion will be considered.


• 1 year acting as a Mentor for other office personnel. (Experience in formal Mentorship setting with supporting documentation and proven success preferred.)


• Ability to Multi-task in a fast paced environment.


• Superior Customer-service based skills. (Proven ability to manage hostile and volatile customers utilizing tact and professionalism required.)


• Proven ability to work with and in-between multiple levels of internal infrastructure.


• Proven experience in written and verbal business communications, including but not limited to: Proper business writing techniques and a strong command of the English language with punctuation and grammatical aptitude.


• Practical experience with Windows XP, Microsoft Office Products, (Advanced knowledge of Excel – required), A/S 400 environment (preferred) and experience using a Risk Management Information System (RIMS) such as CS Stars (preferred).


• Understanding of Insurance and Medical terminology (Required).


• Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills.


• Ability and desire to work with limited direction.


• Must be a self-motivating, result driven individual, comfortable with change.


• Experience in a “Team-first” environment
