Staffing Request: Instructional Designer

Position Status: Full-time Employee

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Director of Learning & Engagement

Supervises: No supervisory responsibilities.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is responsible for assisting in the, development, authoring and maintenance of training materials. This position will work closely with his/her Manager and SME’s to design, create and maintain online, blended and instructor-led learning materials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads and guides projects from start to finish with minimal supervision to meet deadlines as assigned
  • Works closely with manager and SME’s as needed to share knowledge and maintain a well-organized, timely and high-quality work product
  • Works closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)/testers to design and develop content, test courseware and troubleshoot issues that may impact design or established deadlines
  • Applies adult learning principles and effective e-learning techniques to create instructional design documents, e-learning storyboards and instructor/facilitator/participant materials
  • Utilizes various authoring and rapid deployment tools to design, develop, author and publish web based training modules and interactive e-learning courses for any format necessary
  • Identifies and solves a variety of problems of greater scope and complexity
  • Takes responsibility for own actions and works accordingly to get the job done
  • Produces eye-catching, streamlined product designs and simple graphics to visually support learning content
  • Writes learning objectives and modules of content that ensure mastery of learning objectives
  • Tests own courses within the Learning Management Test Systems (LMS) via CTG provided laptop and on tablet devices to confirm formatting, spelling/grammar, functionality and scoring
  • Testing includes but is not limited to assigning various learning objects and content to testers, creating and maintaining tester login information as needed, and troubleshooting user issues related to testing
  • Participates in usability studies and contributes to innovation efforts through product development technology, processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness, assisting others in thinking creatively about learning products
  • Maintains a current technical skillset with proficiency in software applications applicable to instructional design and development/authoring
  • Maintains current custom e-learning resources and data integrity including regular file back-ups to Authoring Repository and other designated locations/media devices
  • Ensures matters related to client or potential clients are handled in a way that creates positive lasting impressions with high quality, prompt and courteous service by oneself and others
  • Works collaboratively with teammates to learn CTG branding and design practices and department procedures and the use of authoring guidelines and templates
  • Takes on other duties as assigned and as needed with a positive and willing attitude

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Solid instructional design expertise for e-learning and blended learning
  • Intermediate working knowledge of authoring tools used to create interactive instructional materials such as Adobe Captivate (preferred), Articulate Storyline or the equivalent Working knowledge of integrating audio, video, simulations and animations using e-learning development tools such as GoAnimate, SnagIt (preferred) or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of GoTo Meeting, Skype for Business and similar web conferencing tools and the design of synchronous learning events
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong critical thinking/problem solving skills and ability to build on experience to use technology to bring opportunities to use value-added tools to team members’ attention
  • Flexibility to shift focus in a fast-paced environment with continually changing priorities
  • Familiarity with creating scorm packages for publishing to LMS test systems
  • Intermediate skill with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree in instructional design, education or related field or commensurate work experience required
  • At least 3-4+ years of relevant experience - strong knowledge of instructional design principles and their application
  • Proficiency in the use of authoring and multimedia tools for the design of e-learning courseware
  • Experience working in a corporate or professional services environment with experience designing training systems, procedures and programs desired
  • Communicate frequently with co-workers as well as with managers to discern their needs, and able to express themselves
  • Work as a member of a team as well as be a self-motivator with ability to work independently
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment to coordinate work
  • Frequently communicates with clients and coworkers and must be able to share information effectively

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Attends appropriate conferences and seminars to maintain an up-to-date knowledge base of new instructional software and pedagogical techniques.
  • Presents on topics related to distance learning, technology and course design at state, regional, or national meetings.
  • Serves on enterprise wide committees, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
