Position Purpose

The training course manager will be responsible for leading and motivating team members on a daily basis. This individual will serve as a working manager, which will include working as an Instructor/trainer within Covenant’s Parker Development Program. This position plays a pivotal part in helping to improve the professional driver’s handling of the vehicle.

 

Responsibilities:

• Serve as a subject matter expert in the area of safely operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) and as such contribute to the development of relevant course content for various training programs. Facilitate training sessions with participants and answer any questions that arise.
• Directly coach and mentor participants on best practices on how to operate the CMV to successfully complete the skills course.
• Coordinate the daily set-up and maintenance of the driving skills courses.
• Provide continuous improvement coaching for participants including the daily formation of a skills improvement plan for the following day. Assist in the collection of relevant data for performance times in relation to established key performance indicators.
• Assist in conducting any student driver road tests and backing tests needed for various programs throughout the Covenant Transport. These skills tests are to be performed in conformance with established guideline.
• Work collaboratively with all internal departments to ensure the skills tests, course objectives, and training content is up-to-date and relevant for the needs of the business
• Accept other duties as may be assigned and all other duties required.

                 

Requirements:

• Four year degree or equivalent work experience
• Prefer at least 5 years in the trucking industry
• Experience training and coaching others in the safe operation of a commercial vehicle
• Minimum of 2 years previous manager  experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and web-based software programs
• Excellent communication skills
• Must be able to demonstrate a respectful and professional attitude to both drivers and management during   stressful and challenging situations
• Effective interpersonal skills including conflict management
• Take-charge, solutions-minded, results-oriented personality required
• Safe driving record
• In-depth understanding of general safety needs and DOT/CSA regulations preferred
• Public speaking skills required
• Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task required
• Excellent problem solving skills required
• Must be able to lift and move heavy equipment (50lbs)
• Must be able to work in a variety of climates including being outdoors for long periods of time.
• Ability to work standing up for 7 hours a day
