Position Purpose

To prospect, solicit, and build relationships with new customers on behalf of Covenant Solutions. Solicit new customers through cold calling, email campaigns, and other means. Actively engages prospective customers for new business opportunities including Truckload, LTL, Intermodal and International and identify other logistics services potential for referral to the VP Logistics Sales. 


Position Responsibilities

  • Routinely identify and qualify new business opportunities and position Solutions to secure same.
  • Work jointly with Enterprise Sales Managers on pre-determined/shared accounts to generate new and ongoing business.
  • Generate new business through prospecting, networking, cold calls, and referrals by building a portfolio of customers in geographic areas outside of current customer base.
  • Maintain customer call solicitation sheets daily, notating contact with customer, number of loads booked and any customer comments.  Maintain current CRM profiles and contact notes in the company CRM system.
  • Be proficient in Truckload, Intermodal and LTL operations and how to position services to prospective customers.  Have a working understanding of international and outsource managed freight services to enable effective referrals.
  • Present phone or webex-based sales presentations to prospective customers.   Make face to face sales calls as required.
  • Utilize Microsoft CRM to source, identify prospects, develop customer opportunities, and log ongoing communication.
  • Conduct and facilitate appropriate customer handoffs to customer operations.
  • Conduct ongoing follow up to develop greater value, communicate new opportunities, and build professional relationships.   Ensure routine review of Solutions performance scorecards with customers.
  • Work with Carrier Operations to understand Covenant Solutions carrier network capabilities and needs.
  • Become knowledgeable of Transportation Management System (TMS) and other available tools (DAT, ITS, Loadex, etc.) capabilities as they relate to securing new business from customers. 
  • Meet or exceed goals for sales revenue and gross margin on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Periodically analyze and make appropriate recommendations to ensure that Solutions is operated in an efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.



Position Requirements

4 Year Degree Preferred – Business, Supply Chain, Logistics or Finance

3+ Years Transportation/Logistics/Supply Chain Industry Experience Preferred

Proficiency with Technology Systems – Microsoft Office, Outlook, TMS, etc.

Effective Written and Verbal Communication Skills

Good Business Management Skills – Detail Oriented, Organized, Time Management, Priority Setting, etc.

Ability to Work Independently – Bias for Action, High Level of Initiative, etc.

Professional Presentation – Appearance and Speaking

Uncompromising Level of Integrity
