The Certified Cancer Registrar abstracts cases, performs case-finding and provides support in all technical phases of the Cancer Registry. She/he is attentive to detail, has good computer and organizational skills, attends required educational functions and maintains credentials. She/he will assist with cancer conferences, as needed.
Required: Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification and completion of a minimum of an Associates degree [including or in addition to two semesters of Human Anatomy and/or Physiology college level coursework. De-escalation training, if applicable
Required: One to two years experience in a hospital based cancer registry
Preferred: One to two years abstracting experience in a cancer registry

Department Position Summary:
The Certified Cancer Registrar abstracts and codes clinical data using appropriate classification systems, performs case finding procedures, and provides support in all technical phases of the Cancer Registry.
Abstracting must be completed within six months of the date of first contact (at least 90%). Quality of data is monitored and maintained (errors/edits should not exceed 10%). The Registrar reviews all updates and remains current on all coding guidelines. Standards, requirements and guidelines are followed in strict accordance with the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS-CoC) and the Tennessee Cancer Registry (TCR). The Cancer Registrar complies with all the requirements of the CoC for an approved cancer program.
Assist with cancer conferences, as needed.
