Job Summary: The Director is responsible for assisting in the development and evolution of the overall strategy for the Companys operations in Health Information Management for Erlanger hospitals and physicians. The Director is responsible for oversight of all HIM operational processes, employees and workflow, including but not limited to, incomplete record management, HIM transcription, release of information (ROI), record pick up and reconciliation, pulling, filing and retrieval of paper medical records, and physician practices EMR. The Director interprets policies and procedures, recommends changes as appropriate, and provides relevant feedback. The Director works in concert with the Compliance Office to ensure compliant and accurate coding. The Director plays an important role in the Revenue Cycle and works as a team member in obtaining Revenue Cycle goals. The Director serves as a key promoter of HIM and is responsible for setting the tone in the department as a service organization, continuously seeking to understand, meet and exceed customer expectations and needs.
Education: Required: Bachelors degree in Health Information Management or related field.
Preferred: Masters degree with focus in Health Information Management/Technology.
Experience: Required: Minimum of 8 years work experience in an area related to health information management. Proven leadership required. Epic HB and PB HIM Experience Required
Preferred: Experience in leading large organizations. Consulting or proven work experience in areas of process redesign, compliance, revenue cycle, clinical quality, and project management.
Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration Preferred: RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator)
Preferred: CHPS (Certified in Healthcare Privacy & Security)
Department Position Description: The position directs, establishes, and plans the overall policies and goals for a medical records department in support of the Systems strategic objectives and program planning. Ensures that all health information management practices meet Joint Commission/DNV and state standards. Oversees budgeting, quality improvement and staff hiring, evaluation and supervision. Manages discharged not final billed (DNFB) and candidate for bill (CFB) within the benchmarks established by the System. Ensures compliant and accurate coding. Works in a collaborative effort to ensure documentation accurately reflects the patient experience. Oversees the ROI process to ensure deadlines are met regarding third-party requests. Establishes benchmarks regarding coding productivity to promote efficiency. Works in concert with the CDI team in providing ongoing education to staff and physicians. Established processes and procedures for appropriate queries and documentation clarification to support the billing function in a timely manner in conjunction with the AVP of Revenue Cycle. Ensures support of the quality initiatives of the System as needed. HIM Director is responsible for both professional and technical side of coding, with involves working with all Erlanger facilities and Physicians. Provides leadership and on-going support to ensure Epic system, as it relates to HIM is functioning optimally. Promotes a customer service culture within the HIM department.
