Job Summary:
A non-certified healthcare provider employed by Erlanger Health System is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients under the direction of the Physician. The MA will assist all providers in the delivery of health care for patients, greeting and identifying patients, escorting patients to exam rooms, identifying purpose of visit, preparing patient for office visit, including but not limited to, weighing patient, taking vital signs and obtaining other appropriate patient data.

This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practices patient population. Participates in the practices quality improvement process and performance evaluation.

Education:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:
Required:
Minimum of one year experience performing Medical Assistant duties in physician office setting.

Graduate from an accredited or governed Medical Assistant program.

NOTE: During an acquisition, the organizations medical assistant employees must have two years of on the job training, if not a graduate of a formal program or passed Medical Assistant Certification and the employee must pass Erlangers medical assistant competency assessment exam.

Preferred:
Casting\splinting experience.
Knowledge of electronic medical records.

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required:
BLS required within 30 days of hire

Preferred:
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant

Position Accountabilities):
Document medical histories, vital signs and other patient related data in medical charts.
Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height, show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
Record patients medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in EMR.
Under the direction of Physician prepare medication for injections.
Under the direction of Physician collect blood, tissue or other laboratory specimens, order and prepare them for testing
Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians instructions to patients.
Under the direction of Physician authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies
Under direction of Physician remove sutures
Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat, clean and tocked.
Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
Schedule appointments for patients when needed.
Contact physical therapy, medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests and/or admission.
Perform general office duties such as answering telephones, taking dictation and completing insurance forms and monitor medical, lab supplies and equipment for inventory.
Be familiar with advanced levels of standardized medical procedures and practices.
Be familiar with provider schedule daily and EMR.
Be flexible to float between multiple providers as needed.
Knowledge of medical terminology to assist scribe with EMR input

Department Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Physician assess patients, selects, develop, implement and evaluate plan of care. Under the direction on Physician administer pharmacological drugs as ordered, perform procedures and operate equipment necessary for patient care as assigned.

The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the Practice. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the practices policies and procedures. The employee will assist in the delivery of primary health care and patient care management under the direction of the physician or nurse. Primary duties include, but are not limited to preparing patient for examination and/or treatment, assisting physician as directed, taking patient histories and vital signs, setting up exam rooms and instruments, collection of laboratory tests, processing of waived laboratory tests, and preparing and maintaining supplies and equipment needed for examination/treatment. Supports other practice operations as assigned by the Physician or Practice Manager.
