A registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for the initiation of intravenous lines, care of the patient receiving parenteral nutritional support, administration of tuberculin skin tests, insertion of peripherally inserted central catheters, and responding to Code Blues.
Required: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
Required: At least one year experience with acute Medical Surgical patients.

Required: Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee, CPR.
The Nurse Licensure Compact will not change how to obtain or renew a Tennessee license. However, the Tennessee nursing license will be a single state license for Tennessee Residents or non-compact state residents. Tennessee licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non-Tennessee residents.
Department Position Summary:
The registered nurse has the responsibility of assessing the patient for vascular access and initiation of intravenous lines, assessment of central venous and peripherally inserted central catheters, dressing changes of central venous and peripherally inserted central catheters, access and maintenance of implanted ports, initiation and care of parenteral nutritional support, thrombolytic declotting of central venous lines, application and evaluation of tuberculin skin tests, and responding to code blues. The nurse will also be responsible for interaction and collaboration with members of the healthcare system and participation in the clinical decision-making process relating to venous access and infusion therapy.
The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the units policies and procedures. This is done through evaluation of direct supervisor by direct observation, in a skills lab, or discussed verbally or written. Competency can also be evaluated by a formal peer review process and/or by self assessment based on objective criteria that is reviewed and validated.
