A non-certified healthcare provider employed by Erlanger Health System is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients under the direction of an RN, LPN, physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practicesï¿½ patient population. Participates in the practiceï¿½s quality improvement process and performance evaluation.
High School diploma or equivalent.
Graduate from an accredited or governed Medical Assistant program.
NOTE: During an acquisition, the organizationï¿½s medical assistant employees must have two years of on the job training, if not a graduate of a formal program and the employee must pass Erlangers medical assistant competency assessment exam.

The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in physician practice. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. The individual must be able to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs. The individual must be able to provide the care needed as described in the units policies and procedures. This is done through evaluation of direct supervisor by direct observation, or discussed verbally or written.
