A registered, certified (CCS), or eligible Health Information professional employed by Erlanger Health System responsible for the coding of inpatient and outpatient encounters, as well as resolution of billing issues related to accurate coding.
Required: Credentialed as RHIT, RHIA, RN or possess the certification of CCS. BS or AS degree in Health Information Management Administration or Health Information Technician from an accredited program. Must have 3 years of coding experience in an acute hospital.
Required: Must demonstrate knowledge of coding to support this position. Ability to follow standard practices in coding and reimbursement. Computer literate in a windows environment, also basic word processing skills, knowledge of MS Office and a basic graphics package. Possess excellent communication skills both written and oral. Demonstration of sound judgment and organizational ability. Ability and knowledge to maintain a quality and quantity standard in coding.

Department Position Summary:
Responsible for working with the Medical Staff to offer documentation education to secure all legitimate DRG opportunities.
The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to optimally code inpatient and out patient encounters. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the various payment schemes for inpatient encounters. The individual must demonstrate the ability to be flexible as to the type of encounter to be coded. The associate must demonstrate the ability to work in a self-directed team by taking and giving direction and sharing in the responsibility of the team. The associate must be able to relate statistical data into graphs for production and CQI purposes. The associate must display the ability to be self-motivated, be able to evaluate the scope of each days work, and display time management skills to accomplish the work evaluated. The associate must keep her/his licensure current by participating in continuing education. The associate must provide management with a copy of her/his certificate and a copy of the yearly membership card. The associate will perform any other tasks as assigned.
Team Leader Responsibilities:
Responsible for leading a team of other inpatient coders estimated at 3 for the following services:
This includes training brand new inpatient coders, managing their workloads, reviewing of their productivity, and acting as a subject matter expert for these specific services.
