A Sleep (Polysomographic) Technician employed by Erlanger Medical Center works under medical and general supervision to perform overnight polysomnograms, MSLTs and oximetries, as well as operate sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology under the supervision of the medical director, registered technologist or designee. The technician has the skills and knowledge to perform complex and non-routine recordings.
Required: Successful completion of a sleep technology program, associated with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited educational facility or a minimum of six months of experience as a sleep trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies
Required: Current on testing equipment within 6 months
Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required: Eligible to sit for the state registry exam
Preferred: Holds a Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) credential or equivalent.
Department Position Summary:
A Sleep (Polysomographic) Technician functions independently to safely operate sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep.wake physiology. The Sleep Technologist administers oxygen and positive airway pressure devices in accordance with established protocols, applies recording devices to the patient, and performs cleaning/disinfecting of equipment. The Sleep Technologist must recognize sleep pathology when it occurs and respond with appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety. The Sleep Technologist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate for the age of the patient. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, posses the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the information to identify each patients requirements for care. These duties will be performed under the supervision of the RPSGT.
