This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practicesï¿½ patient population. Participates in the practiceï¿½s quality improvement process and performance evaluation.
Required: BS or AS degree in Health Management Administration or Health Information Technician from an accredited program and two years exposure to reimbursement and coding principles; OR Certified Professional Coder (CPC) with three years experience plus specialty certification from AAPC or other nationally recognized certification board.
Must demonstrate knowledge of coding to support this position. Minimum two years plus a degree or three years plus CPC and specialty certification. Data entry proficiency required. Strong PC experience utilizing Excel and MS Word. Possess excellent ability and knowledge to maintain a quality and quantity standard in coding.
Prior GE Centricity Business (GECR), Invision, or HPF experience a plus. Must be able to successfully complete GECR/Invision training based on established guidelines.

Department Position Summary:
Responsible for coding and/or auditing of physician documentation to meet CMS requirements, and ongoing training with physicians and mid-level providers on documentation rules and regulations. Coding of inpatient, outpatient and procedure encounters, as well as resolution of billing issues related to accurate coding.
The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to optimally code inpatient, outpatient and surgical/procedural encounters. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the various payment schemes for inpatient and outpatient encounters. The individual must demonstrate the ability to be flexible as to the type of encounter to be coded. The associate must demonstrate the ability to work in a self-directed team by taking and giving direction and sharing in the responsibility of the team. The associate must display the ability to be self-motivated, be able to evaluate the scope of each dayï¿½s work, and display time management skills to accomplish the work evaluated. The coder must take continuing education courses, and stay current with all coding updates. Must have excellent communication skills, leadership abilities that promote growth and development of employees; critical thinking and decision-making skills; ability to interact with all staff members within Physician Services and Patient Financial Services.
