The Communications Specialist II employed by Erlanger Health System is responsible for operating all base radios, information systems, and related equipment associated with the LIFE FORCE Communications Center and Chattanooga MedComm.
Graduate of an accredited EMT-Paramedic training program.
Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certificate preferred.
A minimum of two (2) years field experience or two (2) years emergency communications experience.
Experience in EMS and dispatch is required. Experience must reflect general knowledge in pre-hospital practice and skills; knowledge of current trends and new developments; knowledge of principles and practices of emergency communications and pre-hospital medicine, applicable to those areas requiring special eduction.
Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and database management is preferred.
Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Current licensure to practice as an EMT-Paramedic in the State of Tennessee. Current BLS certification.
Nationally Registered EMT-P (NREMT-P), ITLS or PHTLS, PALS or PEPP and ACLS strongly preferred. NAACS certification is preferred.
Department Position Summary:
Must have a working knowledge and operational understanding of guidelines and procedures for coordinating both local and regional emergency service (air and ground) radio traffic.
Accurately maintains federal, state, local and EHS records.
Functions as a liaison for gathering and/or routing information by utilizing computer equipment and individual communications skills to accomplish various tasks, including, but are not limited to
Routing of EMS field reports to the appropriate receiving facility via conventional radio or cellular pathways
Receiving, coordination, and completion of LIFE FORCE/ Chattanooga MedComm related communication responsibilities
Following written guidelines and protocols when necessary
Working with other Communications Specialists in the Communications Center
Assisting with maintaining cleanliness and efficiency of the air medical department and related equipment.
The Communications Coordinator must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide radio assistance appropriate to the ages of the patients transported by the by ground and air medical services. This knowledge will include:
The principles of human growth and development, which will allow the Communications Coordinator to assess and interpret data about the patient.
Utilization of assessment and data to provide age specific services and radio assistance as described in the LIFE FORCE/Chattanooga MedComm Policies and Procedures.
Subject to be assigned to the field division as needed, and must also meet core competencies of Job Code #3309 (EMT).
Preceptor ratings in specific areas of Flight Operations / RMCC.
Performance of other duties as assigned by the EROC Supervisor or Emergency Communications Manager.
