A Patient Care Technician (PCT) employed by Erlanger Health System provides direct patient care under the direction of a LPN or RN.
High School education or equivalent. Required to meet one of the following: Completed Certified Nursing Assistant course and passed certification exam, Completed First Responder Course, Completed EMT program, Nursing student having completed Fundamentals of Nursing, Completed Medical Assistant Program, Pre-Med student, Military Corpsman, Combat Life Saver or Combat Medic or Completed Surgical Tech program. Any of these may apply and work in a Patient Care Tech position, but must function within the guidelines, skills, and pay grade outlined for the Patient Care Tech.
Those who were employed as a Patient Care Tech prior to 3-1-2004 and do not have the above educational requirements will be grandfathered in as a Patient Care Tech. He/She must successfully complete an Erlanger fundamentals checklist, observed demonstration, and pass a written exam.
Preferred: Hospital experience preferred

Department Position Summary:
A Patient Care Technician (PCT) on the 5000 Medicine Unit provides direct patient care under the direction of a RN/Nurse Extender including activities of daily living, specimen collection, and vital signs.
The PCT must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the 5000 Medicine Unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan, possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patientï¿½s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patientï¿½s requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the unitï¿½s policies and procedures.
