The EEG Supervisor is a certified EEG Technologist responsible for the day to day operations of the EEG Neurodiagnostics Lab. The EEG Supervisor is responsible for providing and administering neurodiagnostic procedures per physician orders. This position has the additional responsibility of the departmental Systems Administrator. The EEG Supervisor is responsible for operating the EEG machines in to measure and record the electrical activity of the brain, which assists in the diagnosis of epilepsy/seizure disorders. This person is also responsible for gathering and documenting the patients medical history, explaining test procedures, preparing the patient for procedure as well as performing the procedure per general electrodiagnostic and lab standards, per policy manual, while adhering to safety standards. Also responsible for ensuring quality test study and reporting critical findings to the physician.
Associates Degree or equivalent experience.
Completion of an EEG training course/curriculum with eligibility to take the board exam (R. EEGT).
Completed two years of college or Associates Degree in health care
Minimum of 3 years experience in the field of EEG
Three years hospital experience. Minimum of 3 years experience in the field of neurodiagnostics.
Has worked in an epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) setting up and conducting studies and monitoring patients.
Demonstrates appropriate clinical skill and reasoning when performing EEGs in reference to whether to perform or not perform activations and optimizing the quality of the study.
First aid for seizures
Perform routine in and out patient EEGs.
Setting up and performing long term ICU-EEG studies (critical care monitoring), which includes but is not limited to reviewing/watching ongoing studies for clinical , sub clinical seizures, recognizing normal variants, recognizing and understanding the significance of inter-ictal epileptiform and non-epileptiform activity and identifying different types of artifact and taking necessary action to correct.
Annotating short and long term EEGs.
Clipping/pruning short and long term EEG prior to archiving.
Observing and troubleshooting the EEG record for quality and making corrections as needed to maintain quality, which may include impedance checks and detecting salt bridges.

BLS required within 30 days of hire.
One year of training from an EEG accredited program

Department Position Summary:

The EEG Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of the department including staff, on-call and patient scheduling; maintaining patient and departmental documentation; developing and maintaining a Policy and Procedure Manual; entering charges and completing monthly reports.
The EEG Supervisor serves as the departmental Systems Administrator with the ability to troubleshoot equipment as needed and communicate effectively with the manufacturer to maintain equipment integrity.
The EEG Supervisor will assist the Neuroscience Administrator and Medical Director of Epilepsy in the development and implementation of the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit ; daily operations of the EMU including staff and patient scheduling; maintaining the appropriate patient and departmental documentation; entering charges and completing monthly reports
The EEG Supervisor must be able to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other departmental and hospital-wide staff members. He/she must be able to work independently and interdependently as necessary.
The EEG Supervisor will supervise a team of EEG Technologists who cover the in-patient and out-patient settings. Is responsible for the training and education of EEG technologists and reviewing technical and clinical performance of EEG technologists.
Responsible for ensuring quality of studies and safety of patients.
Responsible for maintaining adequate staff coverage and on-call schedules and working all assigned shifts and being on-call as well.
Responsible for scheduling of studies and calling patients to confirm appointments.
The EEG Supervisor is responsible for providing quality patient care in a safe environment for all patients presenting to the EEG Supervisor Lab.
