Job Summary:
The Cardiac Implantable Devices Specialist provides Erlanger Health Systems patients with optimal evaluation and management of implantable cardiac devices (CIEDS), including the use of cardiac rhythm monitoring tools, in an efficient and effective manner.  The incumbent ensures all activities support optimal outcomes for each patient, while maximizing benefits of cardiac device therapy and 
minimizing the occurrence of adverse device events.  Incumbent performs in-person and remote monitoring of the implanted device functionality (device interrogation and monitoring).  Reprograms pacemakers and defibrillators in accordance with protocols as appropriate.  .   

Education:
Required:   
Graduate of an accredited program in practical nursing

Preferred:
Graduate of accredited program in nursing resulting in eligibility for registered nurse status

Experience:
Required:
Two years related experience, demonstrating knowledge of nursing principles and skills related to care of the cardiac patient.  Must demonstrate ability to recognize cardiac rhythm disturbances encountered in patients with implanted cardiac devices and take appropriate action. Experience must include successful completion of a course in complex cardiac rhythm recognition.  
In lieu of LPN/RN credentials and experience, may consider candidates who have successfully completed a four-year accredited degree program in Biomedical Engineering. 

Preferred:
Graduate of an accredited program in Nursing resulting in registered nurse status, with related experience as above.  BLS required within 30 days of hire.

Current license to practice in State of Tennessee as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  BLS required within 30 days of hire.

Preferred:  
Current license to practice in State of Tennessee as a Registered Nurse. BLS required within 30 days of hire.

Department Position Summary:
The Cardiac Implantable Devices Nurse provides Erlanger Health Systems patients with optimal evaluation and management of implantable cardiac devices (CIEDS), including the use of cardiac rhythm monitoring tools, in an efficient and effective manner.  The incumbent ensures all activities support optimal outcomes for each patient, while maximizing benefits of cardiac device therapy and minimizing the occurrence of adverse device events.  Incumbent performs in-person and remote monitoring of the implanted device functionality (device interrogation and monitoring);  recognizes device functionality issues and clinical events. Reprograms pacemakers and defibrillators in accordance with protocols as appropriate.  Recognizes acute/urgent issues and immediately brings to attention of appropriate physician or advanced practice practitioner.  

Incumbents with registered nurse credentials will conduct whole-patient medical assessment and will be expected to function in a more autonomous manner, consistent with their training and credentials.

The incumbent is involved in a team-based approach to care.  Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines.  Incumbent is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibility) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change;  manages the practices patient population appropriately.  Participates in the practices quality improvement process and performance evaluation.
