Job Summary:
A  Senior Cardiac Pacer-ICD Technician/Exercise working in the Adult Cardiology Practice.  The technician works under the supervision of the cardiology physicians and reports directly to the Nurse Manager of the department. Must be able to identify arrhythmias and respond per department guidelines.  The technician is responsible for performing vitals, hookups to the monitoring system, monitors, TMM, Stress Tests, 12-lead EKGs, replacement/removal of Holter monitor and Cardiac Event monitor recorders as well as the stress test electrode placement/removal and monitoring of the exercise and recovery electrocardiogram.  Performs pacemaker and ICD checks and makes adjustments to these devices.

This position is involved in a team-based approach to care.  Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practices� patient population.  Participates in the practice�s quality improvement process and performance evaluation.

Education:
Required: 
High School Graduate or equivalent.  Required to meet one of the following: Completed Certified Nursing Assistant course and passed certification exam, Completed First Responder Course, Completed EMT program, Nursing student having completed Fundamentals of Nursing, Completed Medical Assistant Program, Pre-Med student, Military Corpsman, Combat Life Saver or Combat Medic or Completed Surgical Tech program.  Any of these may apply and work in a Sr. Cardiac Pacer-ICD Tech position, but must function within the guidelines, skills, and pay grade outlined for the Sr. Cardiac Pacer-ICD Tech.

Experience:
Required:
Previous experience (Minimum 6 months and 50 procedures in conducting exercise stress tests).
Previous experience with event monitors, PPM checks and programming, AICD Checks and programming.

ACLS Certification
Meet the specific competency requirements for Senior Cardiac Pacer-ICD Technician and must pass the initial arrhythmia course with 90% accuracy within 90 days of employment and maintain a 90% passing rate with yearly credentialing.

The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned department.  The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients  requirements relative to his/her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department policies and procedures.
