The Trauma Registrar maintains the trauma registry in a timely fashion. The TR is responsible for daily data entry of AIS-90 revision - update 98 injury severity scoring, ICD-9 procedure and diagnosis coding on all trauma and burn patient entries made in the registry. The TR also provides reports to all Trauma Committees and on a per request basis. In addition, the trauma registrar provides data from the registry to the State Trauma and ACOS National Trauma Databank registries. Assures all QI data elements are captured.
High school education, proficient in medical terminology.
Associate degree in computer related field.
Previous database registry, typing and clerical skills.

Department Position Summary:
Responsible for managing the adult trauma and burn registries (Access and FoxPro software packages) including inpatient and discharge data.
Assurance of data accuracy.
Assigns ICD-9 diagnoses and procedure coding for clinical and research database applications for all adult trauma and burn patients.
Performs clinical scoring of all adult trauma patients in compliance with the American College of Surgeons and State of Tennessee Trauma Center Designation standards.
Responsible for compliance with and participation in the NTRACS (National Trauma Data Bank), a national repository and benchmarking tool for clinical data of trauma and burn patients.
Responsible for compliance with and participation in the Tennessee State Trauma Registry including routine timely data submissions.
Monitors all data elements needed for quality assurance/improvement, trauma patient evaluation, research and patient follow-up.
Report generation and distribution for both internal and external consumption.
Report generation in Access with data analysis in Excel spreadsheet format.
Report generation of statistical, clinical and research data for state site review for Level One Trauma Center designation maintenance.
Participation in the Tennessee State Trauma Registrar meetings and activities.
Participation in meetings with physicians and research staff in analysis of clinical data needs and report generation for clinical and statistical requirements in a progressive research program involving the Trauma Services department in conjunction with the UT College of Medicine.
Works closely with the Trauma Data Analyst to ensure quality data, compliance with state and national registry data abstraction and reporting standards, generate reports, perform upgrades and downloads.
Provides oversight for the Assistant Trauma Registrar.
Responsible for training and quality review of the Assistant Trauma Registrar.
