Hallmark Home & Gifts is an exciting start-up within Hallmark, creating and selling unique products to retailers and consumers around the world. The Product Manager is truly at the center of our organization's business model, leading a highly collaborative team of internal and external partners to develop the right product assortments, get them to market, and manage the business and/or category. This role owns the P&L for their respective brand(s) and directly manages a small team of associate product managers while effectively leading a large cross-functional team.  

Key accountabilities:

  • Manage the P&L for associated brand(s). Prepare business strategies, sourcing, pricing, develop product assortments, manage inventory, drive sales and marketing activities, ensure order fulfillment and balance the financial records.
  • Lead the cross-functional team to deliver the brand strategy and product to retail. Must have a specific vision of trends, both product and in the marketplace. Develop and train associate product managers and lead art directors and designers, assortment and merchandise planners, finance partners, sales and marketing partners, the trade show team and external partners to deliver the strategy and product. Effective Product Managers understand the dynamics of how people work then leads and influences them to be an effective team. Nothing gets done without everybody on a merchant-led team.
  • Expert on the market

Detailed responsibilities:

  • Build product assortments with team using line planning tool, with analysis of trends, prior sales, inventory levels, product cost, open-to-buy, etc. as input. This is an iterative and highly collaborative process that the Product Manager leads with the cross-functional team.
  • Manage the time and action calendar and lead the full scope of product delivery, including procurement packaging, catalog and logistics.  Communicate with external partners abroad throughout the product development cycle managing the schedule, price negotiations, sample status, and more. 
  • Lead end-to-end execution and facilitate the full scope of product delivery, including procurement, packaging, catalog and logistics.
  • Play a lead role in the selling process as our product and brand expert in trade shows, in partnering with our national sales managers, sales rep groups and in direct presentations to customers.
  • Domestic and international travel

The Product Manager we seek is passionate, curious, driven and highly agile both how they learn and adapt to change.  We seek someone who holds themselves and others accountable to a high level of performance, and is a jack-of-all trades not because they have to do it all, but because they need to effectively get work done through so many others. Excellent communication skills, ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in a fast paced, often changing environment are a must. Must have strong ability to connect the dots on all trends in the marketplace (and economy, etc) to then translate them into strong product lines and brands. There's no place for ego on our team it takes all of us to make it happen and we're looking for the product manager whose personal leadership skills are as strong as their merchant skills, the one that everyone wants to work with because they are just.that.good

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a merchant
  • Minimum 8 years of total business experience in retail or product development
  • Professional experience in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Prior people management experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful track record of managing a P&L. Strong business and financial acumen, backed by strong analytic skills.
  • Product development experience specifically within home décor or gift industries. Prior experience working with overseas factories, including international travel.
  • Goal oriented, entrepreneurial self-starter who thrives in a startup atmosphere. High degree of flexibility and initiative.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, able to manage multiple competing priorities and successfully get work done through others.  Must be proactive, detail oriented, and possess the ability to meet tight deadlines. 
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including effectively communicating with diverse, cross-functional audiences, able to influence and negotiate
  • Strong collaboration and team skills, bringing an end-to-end business mindset and approach to getting results.
  • Stays ahead of trends (marketplace, product, economic, social, etc) and retail industry developments
  • Strong learning agility, ability to adapt quickly to new information, processes and inputs and successfully work through ambiguity.  Highly self-motivated with a strong sense of personal accountability.  Able to work in a fast-paced, often changing environment and can effectively shift between strategic thinking and executing work.
  • High level of professionalism
