The Software Development Architect is the top technical expert within the respective software-development department.  This role is responsible for the planning, research, design, and implementation of the HBC software-product architecture.  The Architect has excellent technology, planning, and communications skills and leads the development team in the development of technology roadmaps and continuous enhancements of the HBC software-development environment to meet dynamic business requirements.  The Architect is sought by various members of the enterprise for his ability to mentor and explain complicated architectural issues to various levels of audience within his scope of responsibility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design as well as play key role in implementing innovative software solutions that strike a balance between technical œcorrectness and business œneeds while keeping an eye on business/market opportunities
  • Develop innovative software solutions to deliver business objectives
  • Clearly and proactively communicate concepts, issues, concerns and risks to stakeholders
  • Collaborate with business sponsors to ensure that IT solutions meet the business and market demands
  • Work with the Enterprise Architect to establish, implement and ensure software-engineering best practices and standards
  • Perform regular code reviews to provide feedback to other developers and ensure that best practices are being followed
  • Work with other departmental architects, Development, Quality Assurance, Product Management, Project Management and Infrastructure resources to formulate the new-product architectural mission identifying descriptions of performance, availability, and supportability aspects of the overall environment
  • Research and advise on the acquisition of new technologies into new-product development and align these with business direction (as well as vendor and technology viability into the future)
  • Attend and represent new-product development in the weekly Architecture Board Meeting.  Participate in other architecture meetings to align development across software groups
  • Research and advise on the feasibility of potential future projects to management
  • Manage/deliver R&D efforts specific to new-product development or oversee/review technology recommendations from other teams/architects submitted to new-product development
  • Work with business and management to share and explain new-product development architecture vision
  • Mentor others on architecture principles, practices, techniques, etc.
  • May participate as in sales process by providing technology solutions and support to HBC clients and prospects
  • Define application architecture and determine architectural trade-offs
  • Provide production support for critical issues when necessary

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in software development
  • Experience developing business applications with Microsoft .NET development platform
  • Experience with basic graphical modeling approaches, tools and model repositories
  • Experience balancing the long-term (big picture) and short-term implications of individual technology decisions
  • Experience translating business needs into software-development architecture and solutions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of business and application reengineering principles and processes
  • Ability to rapidly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies
