Senior Attorney at Hallmark Cards, Inc. in Kansas City, MO

The Senior Attorney reports to the Associate General Counsel Litigation and the Executive Vice President/General Counsel and works on a variety of legal matters assigned by the Associate General Counsel Litigation, the General Counsel or other attorneys within the department.  The Senior Attorney has supervisory responsibility of paralegal and administrative support.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provides in-house legal services and support to all areas of the parent company, its affiliates and subsidiaries, with primary emphasis on intellectual property, licensing and litigation matters
  • Partners with and manages outside counsel in appropriate situations
  • Stays informed of new legislation or requirements, and proactively works to ensure compliance
  • Educates business partners through presentations and advice in an effort to mitigate legal risks
  • Is knowledgeable of e-discovery issues and requirements, and proactively works to ensure compliance with such requirements

We are seeking an Attorney with expertise in intellectual property, licensing and litigation to join our Hallmark Legal team. Hallmark's Legal division consists of 15 attorneys, an eDiscovery Legal Specialist, 6 legal analysts, 4 Real Estate Legal Specialists, 5 administrative assistants and a records management clerk.

This position is located at Hallmark's Corporate Headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an accredited U.S. law school
  • Admitted to the Bar
  • Licensed to practice law, and in good standing, in Missouri
  • 3+ years' experience working with intellectual property, licensing and litigation matters


  • 3+ years' experience with a large law firm or Fortune 500 company law department working with intellectual property, licensing and litigation
  • Class rank in the top 20% from an accredited U.S. law school
  • Ability to exercise sound business and legal judgment and demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Analytical, problem solving and project management skills
  • Strong computer, legal research and investigative skills
  • Ability to simultaneously manage a variety of assignments, work quickly and effectively under time pressures to meet deadlines, and prioritize responsibilities and work flow based on the companys strategic goals
  • Confidentiality and attention to detail
  • Local to the Kansas City area (within 100 miles of Kansas City)
