Lead Product Designer

The job

Buildertrend is looking for a Lead Product Designer to work on the #1 project management software for home builders and remodelers.

A Lead Product Designers core responsibility is to define creative direction and an area of focus that helps Buildertrend meet a set of strategic product outcomes. When defining this creative space, Lead Designers are working with their strategic product partners to ensure there is an accompanying strategy of how we believe we can meet the outcomes.

Lead Product Designers are not looking to provide a specific solution to achieve an outcome. Rather, with a priorities project list and a creative space defined, Lead Designers work with our Product Designers to provide feedback on specific solutions. They also seek to use delivered projects to further refine our possible solution space to meet desired outcomes.

Things to look forward to

• Working closely with strategic product and architecture roles to uncover refined focus areas that could meet a set of desired product outcomes.
• Combining qualitative and quantitative customer insights to create refined areas for solutions.
• Sharing and presenting the vision of possibilities to strategic leadership.
• Creating team alignment around user goals, activities, and tasks through user flows, journey maps, etc.
• Working with Product Designers to provide feedback on solutions within the set creative direction.
• Coaching and mentoring Product Designers to help them grow their skillset in design.
• Occasionally working with Product Designers to provide on-the-ground solution support to help achieve product outcomes.

The preferred candidates

• BA/BS Degree in HCI, Graphic Design, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 7+ years of relevant work experience in UX, product, or web design
• Ability to effectively communicate research results, distill complex user experience concepts, and craft design vision for strategic leaders.
• Experience coaching, mentoring, and delivering transparent feedback to other designers.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment
• A strong design portfolio showcasing your approach to solving a variety of complicated design problems using creativity, critical thinking, and fluency in best practices of user-centered design
• Experience in user research techniques including user interviews and usability testing
• Experience with a variety of UX design deliverables including rapid prototypes, user stories, concept sketches, storyboards, information architecture, interaction design, interface (UI) design, visual design, and infographics
• Experience designing both web and mobile applications
• Proficiency with Figma, Adobe CS (including XD), Sketch, or other design tools
• Experience working within, and contributing to, a Design System
