Job Description

A Step-Up Omaha! Youth Employment Career Development Coach is responsible for providing effective career coaching, advising, and serving as a liaison between program staff, agencies, and local middle and high schools. The role of the coach is to provide programming and services consistent with the goals and objectives of Step-Up Omaha! This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule – with occasional evenings and weekends required.



  • Interact with a diverse population of participants ages 14 to 21 providing career focused activities including but not limited to: facilitate small group workshops/trainings, arrange and host events/field trips, conduct assessments, document and submit participant progress and time, provide supervision, provide career coaching, maintain individual development plans, and make recommendations that will support the learning and development goals of assigned participants.
  • Recruit, screen, and conduct intake assessments for new participants, if necessary.
  • Track participant demographic information, academic standing, and attendance in database, maintain individual development plan, and submit required reports.
  • Assist with developing strategies to increase student participation in program activities, individual appointments, and presentations/workshops.
  • Interface with a variety of workforce development partners to include; employers, educators, counselors, community-based partners, parents, mentors, etc.
  • Make regularly scheduled worksite visits in order to monitor the youth placed, foster business relationships and proactively address any employer concerns and/or questions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned



  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English



  • Bachelors degree in human services, education, psychology, social work, career counseling, or related area and 1 year of related experience
  • Experience  in career coaching or counseling, administering assessments, program planning, curriculum development,  and group presentations



Possess a valid driver’s license

Willing to submit to background check and complete drug screen, if necessary

Proficient in word processing, excel spreadsheets, and presentation software

  • Knowledge of counseling methods and techniques; human behavior and performance; medical and mental disabilities of youth served; principles and procedures for training development and instruction. 
  • Knowledge of various social media and internet tools that can be used to supplement and enhance the core career curriculum.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite computer programs.
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, grammar, automated office skills
  • Knowledge of general office procedures and of the importance of confidentiality as it pertains to program rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of reasonable ADA accommodations that may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Ability to develop actions and implement solutions on individual and group levels.
  • Knowledge of resources available that may be beneficial to the participant and/or their family.
