LAKESIDE SURGERY CENTER

Lakeside Surgery Center is a freestanding Ambulatory Surgery Center dedicated to the delivery of care to patients in need of surgical services in an outpatient setting.  Employment for Lakeside Surgery Center is through Surgical Care Affiliates (SCA), one of the largest national outpatient surgery providers based out of Illinois.  While Lakeside Surgery Center is affiliated with CHI, it is not apart of Lakeside Hosptial.

We are currently hiring for a Certified Nursing Assistant for the Preop/PACU area.  Lakeside Surgery Center has 4 OR suites and one procedure room.  We specialize in orthopedic, podiatry, plastics, opthalmology, general, ENT and pain management procedures.  We are open Monday through Friday, with no weekends, no nights, no call and no holidays.  Hours vary during the day and week and flex according to the surgery schedule and center staffing needs.  Potential candidates must have flexibilty with the hours during the week.

Position Purpose:      

Performs various patient care activities under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse. This position will support the OR staff by terminally cleaning operating rooms, re-stocking supplies, ordering and putting supplies away. This position will have limited patient contact. This position will need to be flexible, task oriented, like to organize, and be self motivated. Supports and complies with all clinical policies, procedures and protocols. 

Position Reports to:       Clinical Leader, Director of Nursing

Position Supervises:      None

Degree of Supervision Provided to Position:    Medium – must be self-directed and works under directions of the Clinical Leader.

Education, Experience, and Licensure:

High School graduate preferred.  Certification from Accredited School for Nursing Assistant highly

preferred.  At least 1 year experience in medical surgical nursing assistant preferred.  Current Basic

Cardiac Life Support (BLS) card or successful completion within 90 days of employment.

As a representative of Surgical Care Affiliates, all comments, attitudes, actions, and behaviors have a direct effect on the Facility’s image and perceptions of quality service. Interaction with patients, families, physicians, referral sources, affiliating schools, visitors, volunteers, co-workers, supervisors, vendors, etc. must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional.   1. Clinical Quality:
  1. To assist nurses in clinical areas with patient care activities.

    4. Observes and preserves the patients’ rights to human dignity.

    6. Uses aseptic technique and personal protective equipment as necessary.
    7. Demonstrates basic knowledge of sterile technique when donning gloves.
    8. Provides proper cover for patients’ body to maintain modesty and dignity.
    9. Maintains proper technique when assisting with nursing procedures.
    10. Assists patients with activities of daily living according to hospital policy and procedure.
    11. Transfers and positions patients safely as assigned or directed by the team leader.
    12. Performs special procedures, including vital signs,12 lead EKG and weights safely and accurately.
  2. To function effectively as a member of Lakeside Surgery Center.
    1. Does terminal cleaning of clinical areas per policy of Lakeside Surgery Center.
    2. Cleans other areas of surgery center as assigned
    3. Cleans staff lounge as assigned and as necessary.
    4. Assists Material Manager by accepting deliveries, checking packing and putting away supplies.
    5. Assists with laundry as necessary.
    6. Assists with other duties (i.e. inventory) as directed by supervisors.
    7. Requests or accepts supervision in performing new skills of practice and demonstration.
    8. Maintains high standards in dress, conduct, attitude and performance.
    9. Supports and adheres to all Lakeside Surgery Center policies, procedures, and protocols
    10. Contribute to cost containment measures by maintaining responsibility for par levels and supply use.
    11. Maintains regular attendance and punctuality as outlined in the personnel policies.
    12. Attends all mandatory inservices (i.e. Safety, Universal precautions, Bio-Hazard, etc.)
    13. Shows flexibility in accommodating schedule changes (Le. working late or early, changing shifts, work days etc.)

    3. Completes all employee/patient incident documentation in a thorough and timely manner, as required by facility policy.
    4. Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for facility.
    5. Practices infection control and standard precautions as instructed or trained.
    6. Regularly maintains work area and equipment in a pristine manner.
  5. Demonstrates the safe operation of equipment and machinery and follows procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation.
  6. Completes appropriate financial management responsibilities.
    1. Provides input re: equipment needs/supply needs.
    2. Completes patient charges in accordance with facility procedure.
    3. Demonstrates sound cost containment techniques.
  7. Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    1. Horizontal and vertical surfaces, fixtures and designated equipment are to be free of dirt, dust and spots using current established procedures.

    3. Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for department and hospital.
    4. Practices infection control and standard precautions as instructed or trained.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Work is indoors in climate-controlled environment.  Patient care environment with potential exposure to unpleasant odors, to blood and body fluids that may carry infection, to infectious disease, and to chemical and electrical hazards.  Occasional exposure to outdoor climate.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Good visual acuity, accurate color vision.  Ability to lift/transfer patients in excess of 100 pounds, which may require pushing, pulling and essentially utilizing a full range of body movement.  Ability to push a gurney with a 150-pound patient on it.  Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl.  Ability to reach, grasp, use fine finger movement and feel fine sensation to discern temperature, texture, size and shape.  Ability to lift 25-pound instrument trays.  Ability to push heavy equipment on wheels within the OR suite.  Ability to speak and hear.  Ability to wear lead apron.  Computer skills preferred.

      

MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED:

Clinical equipment used for patient care, i.e. suction machine, patient monitoring equipment, office

equipment: computer, Xerox machine.
