The Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a motivated individual to join our Financial Services team and fill the role of Fiscal Project Analyst. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, detail oriented, have a high personal standard of integrity, love working with data, and share in our mission of Helping People Live Better Lives.

Examples of Work

 

Summarize information from various hospital cost reports for rate setting. Analyze cost reports and summarize changes to calculate retro-settlements with certain Medicaid providers. Communicate the findings to hospitals and respond to questions related to the calculations. Set up and maintain business unit coding in the Medicaid Management Information System. Reconcile expenditures in accounting system to expenditures reported on federal reports. Assist with Medicaid Drug Rebate Program activities to assure proper reporting of rebates from drug manufacturers. Work with large datasets to extract required information.

 

Qualifications / Requirements

 

REQUIREMENTS: Post high school education in any of the following areas: accounting, finance, public or business administration,economics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or related field. and/or: Experience in any of the areas above including responsibility for any of the following functions: fiscal or accounting systems analysis; budget analysis or preparation; cost/benefit accounting and/or analysis; design and/or development of accounting control and reporting systems; financial auditing; fiscal records, management; or related areas.

PREFERRED: Bachelors degree in accounting, business, mathematics, statistics or economics from an accredited university. Experience in accounting and experience in government accounting, federal programs and audits, and Medicaid. Strong analytical skills, ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Access. Must demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: the professional accounting principles, theories and practices; project management procedures; research practices and techniques; and, federal and State laws and regulations applicable to accounting/finance operations. Ability to: communicate effectively to exchange factual information and research findings; apply instructions pertinent to collection, analysis, and presentation of numerical data; apply the principles of accounting statistics and fiscal management; interpret and apply State and federal fiscal polices and procedures; formulate conclusions based on data analysis; and set personal work priorities and manage one's work time.
