Summary:                                                       
Under the general direction of the Mold Department Supervisor, the mold set-up technician executes mold changes, machine installs, preventive maintenance functions of the molds, equipment and general plant maintenance in order to produce quality products efficiently, on time, and within the company’s economic framework to optimize profitability. Maintains internal contact with other managers and departments within the company as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Provides maintenance of the equipment, accuracy of their processing, ability to follow instructions, and daily efficiency regarding machine set-ups and output.
  • Provide daily maintenance and repairs to plastics process machinery, molds, support equipment, and water lines as required.
  • Work with the Quality department to identify mold repairs upon last shot completion.
  • Transfer molds through the tool shop when repairs, preventive maintenance and engineering changes are necessary. Monitor the tool shop on duration of all such repairs, preventive maintenance and engineering changes.
  • Ability to configure molds and machines for accurate processing to satisfy production orders
  • Execute mold and component set ups and mold pulls for service
  • Maintains continuous dialogue and communication with the department supervisor as needed to keep him informed on the status of safety, quality, production, schedules, work loads, problems and opportunities available to maximize efficient operation.
  • Maintain compliance within company policies, quality specifications, safety standards and good housekeeping practices
  • Additional duties related to the molding department as needed

Requirements  

  • Understanding of plastic injection mold tooling and knowledge of tool design with the understanding of the fit and function of various mold components
  • Previous experience in injection molding and mold maintenance preferred
  • Ability to assemble and disassemble complex mold tooling for cleaning and repair. Cleaning includes disassembly of mold, cleaning each piece of tooling and inspecting for wear and damage. Details are reworked or replaced as needed.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Open to direction and collaborative work style and a commitment to get the job done
  • Ability to operate in a systematic and logical manner

Technical Training and Computer Skills

  • Experience with Mattec and/or Macola (Progression Workforce) or experience in an ERP/MRP environment is a plus
  • Experience in working with robotic automation is a plus

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
