Duties

This technician position serves as a Pneudraulic System Mechanic within a fuel systems shop responsible for inspection, repair and maintenance of aircraft fuel cells, inflight refueling systems and their components. Utilizing extensive knowledge of fuel systems maintenance practices and procedures, incumbent troubleshoots the systems and determines extent and type of preventive and/or repair maintenance required and performs all necessary repairs, installation, and operational checks. Utilizing electrical wiring diagrams, blueprints, schematics and technical publications, determines extent and type of preventive and/or repair maintenance required. Connects power sources, and using cockpit controls, gauges and additional precision instruments, performs operational and functional checks of inflight refueling, single point refueling and fuel transfer systems and related valves, pumps, switches, selectors, and control devices. Performs leak check of aircraft fuel systems by visual inspection or by removal of panels and dye tracing fuel leaks. Diagnoses and overhauls fuel accessories by disassembling, cleaning, and examining parts for corrosion, scratches, cracks or other damage. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as ORI, IG, and DE inspections, mobility, and command support exercises. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

General Experience:
Experience or training which demonstrates your knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles; knowledge of troubleshooting procedures used to isolate malfunctions in aircraft pneudraulic systems; and ability to use technical manuals, equipment specifications, and test calibration procedures in performing the work.

Specialized Experience:
WG-10 level must have 18 months experience or training which provided a knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical principles. Experience in fabricating fuel, oil and vacuum hose lines. Experience in servicing, maintaining, disassembling assembling, repairing and testing hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Experience in diagnosing malfunctions and overhauling pneudraulic accessories by disassembling, cleaning part and examining parts. Experience in diagnosing trouble and determining remedies. Experience in repairing, rebuilding and overhauling major systems of ground equipment and pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Experience in mechanical repairs using hand tools and test equipment. Experience that demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications and publications.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics). NOTE: You do not have to respond to the KSAs separately but your resume should contain sufficient information to demonstrate possession of the KSAs.

-- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic principles, the physical laws governing the behavior of fluids (liquids and gases).

-- Knowledge of aircraft structure and the relationship of aircraft pneudraulic systems to the structure and to other aircraft systems and ability to operate test panels and ground power equipment.

-- Knowledge of aircraft pneudraulic systems and pneudraulic equipment used in maintaining and checking aircraft pneudraulic equipment.

-- Knowledge of troubleshooting procedures designed to isolate malfunctions in aircraft pneudraulic systems.

-- Knowledge of and skill in the repair and rebuilding of ground equipment pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

-- Skill using common hand tools and test equipment.

-- Ability to interpret technical manuals, illustrations, Specifications, diagrams and schematics to make repairs and modifications.

Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED.

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience:

Not Applicable.

-Applicants need not be assigned to the position or possess the AFSC to apply or be considered for selection. Selected applicant must be assigned to a compatible Military position and attain AFSC within 1 year of appointment action.

  1. Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service Systems to be employed by the Federal Government.
  2. Military Technicians are ineligible for enlistment, retention, and student loan repayment bonuses. Acceptance of a Technician position will terminate these incentives.
  3. Military Technicians in the excepted service will wear the appropriate uniform while performing as a Technician.
  4. Veteran's preference does not apply to National Guard Technician positions in accordance with Title 32 USC 709 (f).
  5. All new technicians are subject to a one year trial/probationary period IAW 32 USC 709.

*Baseline physical*

An employment physical may be required within 90 days of employment per OSHA regulation and NGB. This physical will be used to determine fitness and eligibility for continued employment.
