Duties

The primary purpose of this Air Reserve Technician (ART) Enlisted position is to serve as an Electronic Integrated System Mechanic in an aircraft maintenance organization of an Air Force Reserve Unit. The incumbent will perform duties such as:

  • Rebuilding, overhauling, installing, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, calibrating, aligning, and maintaining, integrated systems, i.e., where the output of a number of sensors subsystems are integrated in a logic subsystem and the resultant used to modify the operation of the total system. Examples are: fire control, flight/landing control, bombing-navigation, and electronic warfare or multiple integrated electronic systems composed of several of these systems which are closely interrelated and interdependent.
  • Modifying/updating avionics support equipment and support software according to applicable technical publications. 
  • Analyzing performance and isolating malfunctions of aircraft lind replaceable units (LRUs) and using computer controlled and manual test stations and equipment to determine operational condition of components of aircraft systems.   
  • Documenting work performed on appropriate forms and systems.
  • Providing on-the-job training to lower graded Electronic Integrated System Mechanics and others in related trades on procedures.

Qualifications

A specific length of experience or training is not required. However, you must have experience and/or training (military or civilian, paid or unpaid) of sufficient scope and quality to be able to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Element A - Ability To Do the Work of Electronic Integrated System Mechanic -- Work independently, make decision, and plan operations to perform the duties of electronic integrated  systems job to be filled. Element B - Ability to Use Hand Tools and Powered Tools (Electronic) -- Independently select and use or operate, as needed, hand and power tools to repair, install, test, and align integrated electronic systems. Element C - Knowledge of Electronic Installation, Repair, and Alignment: -- Ability to repair, install, test, and align integrated electronic equipment and installation. Element H - Theory of Electronics -- Interpret diagrams for electronic equipment and installation. Element J - Troubleshooting Electronic Systems -- Ability to locate malfunctioning circuits, components, etc., and to determine method or repair. Element N - Ability to Read Electronic Schematics -- Ability to interpret diagrams for electronic equipment and installations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance. (2) Work uncommon tour of duty. (3) Maintain job proficiency by reading/reviewing new or revised technical orders or related publications and by completing applicable CDC, OJT, and FTD classes as required. (4) Some positions under this announcement may be designated as drug testing position where the incumbent may be subject to random testing. (5) Some positions under this announcement may be covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of such position.  (6) Incumbents regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities may be assigned. (7) Physical effort involves lifting components and equipment and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Items lifted generally weigh up to 40 pounds and occasionally objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds. Requires a high degree of manual dexterity, eye to hand coordination, prolonged standing, walking and normal color vision. (8) Work is performed inside in a shop environment and outside on the aircraft, subject to inclement weather. Mechanics are subject to injuries such as cuts and bruises and my be subject to danger form exposure to hazardous materials, high pressure air, high noise level, electrical shock, RF radiation and burns from soldering irons.  (9) Some positions under this announcement may be controlled positions covered by the Personal Reliability Program (PRP). (10) Some positions covered by this announcement may be designated as drug testing positions where the incumbent may be subject to random drug testing.
