Duties

This position is located within a National Guard aircraft maintenance organization in Tucson, AZ (162WG). Its primary purpose is to inspect, repair, modify, and service aircraft systems, components, and assemblies, both on- and off-aircraft.

Qualifications

APPOINTMENT FACTORS :This position is the Federal/Excepted Civil Service and is open to current members and those eligible for membership in the Arizona Air National Guard. Individual selected will receive an Indefinitet Appointment

and may be converted to permanent based on availability of funds or position no longer being encumbered. Current on board technicians will maintain current tenure.  

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

Prior to appointment into this position, selectee must be a current member or eligible for membership of the Arizona Air National Guard and be able to qualify for the following AFSC: 2A3X3

Max Military Grade: E6

NOTE:  All Selected applicants will be placed on an Order of Merit List in the order of their referral and selection ranking.

Note: This position is subject to rotating or night shift work.

Acceptance of a Federal Excepted technician position of over 179 days in length will cause termination from the Selected Reserve Incentive Program (BONUS). Individual selected will be required to take a pre-employment medical screening which will be paid for by the Agency.

PCS Funds may be authorized dependent upon funds available at the time of hire.

QUALIFICATION: Aircraft Mechanic, WG-8852-5/8/10, E1-E6

Specialized Experience:

WG 5- Must possess at least 6 months of experience using common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision. Experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade.

 WG 8- Must possess at least 12 months of experience using common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies and components, e.g. such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems.

WG 10:  Must possess at least 18 months of experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE IN THIS POSITION:

1. Ability to performs inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on aircraft to include periodic, phase, hourly, preflight, postflight, calendar, thru-flight, and special inspections.

2. Ability to remove and replace aircraft components.

3. Ability to services oil, fluid, fuel, hydraulic, and oxygen systems.

4. Knowledge and skill to use precision test equipment, technical data, schematics and wiring diagrams.
