Job Description


The primary purpose of this position is as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) to serve as the Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) Numbered Air Force (NAF) Aircraft Maintenance and Aircraft Systems Equipment Program Manager for the NAF and all its subordinate wings and units/functions. This responsibility includes performing work for management of the NAF Readiness Program in the area of aircraft systems equipment management, and to provide and ensure the planning and/or training of ARTs and Traditional Reservists (TR) throughout the NAF in association with assigned programs.

  • Conducts Maintenance Readiness Assessments for aircraft, weapons, or munitions Systems with respect to the NAF Readiness Program in accordance with established procedures providing substantive initiative.
  • Execute planning, operations, and related training requirements for aircraft, weapons, or munitions systems maintenance with respect to the NAF Readiness Program
  • Perform NAF aircraft systems and equipment maintenance reviews as directed.

  • Provide expert technical advice, assistance, and instruction to the NAF and subordinate units on the operation and maintenance of aircraft systems and equipment.

  • Perform special and recurring projects.

  • Qualifications

    You must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or qualifying pay band under other pay systems in the Federal Service which has given you particular knowledge, skills, and abilities as shown below required to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience involved gathering information, identifying and analyzing issues, providing technical advice and assistance and developing recommendations to resolve substantive problems of effectiveness and efficiency of work operations within an Aircraft Maintenance organization. (To be creditable, specialized experience must meet the above quality level requirements).

    (1) Knowledge of directives governing USAF, USAFR, and DoD aircraft maintenance and equipment programs and activities to project, plan and manage Aircraft Systems Equipment Program.

    (2) Knowledge of analytical and evaluate methods and procedures and skill in evaluation program operations to develop plans and supplements to applicable Air Force Reserves directives. (3) Ability to analyze facts, identify problems, report findings, make conclusions and recommend corrective or appropriate action. (4) Knowledge of safety, health, and security regulations and requirements. (5) Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and maintains good order, discipline and working relations to achieve and support quality improvement in all products and service.


    Substitution of Education for Experience: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.     Position may or will require incumbent to: (1) Fly in military and/or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty (TDY) assignments. (2) Must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve military requirements. Incumbents regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. (3) Work is primarily sedentary, although some physical effort or exertion may be required in the performance of duties. There may be some episodes of light lifting or prolonged periods of standing. (4) Work is typically involves normal risks and discomforts common to an office setting. (5) Designated as drug-testing position; incumbent may be subject to random drug testing.  (6) Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
