Job Description


This position is located in 115 MXS, Madison, WI. Its purpose is to serve as the personal assistant and principal clerical and administrative support to one or more supervisors. Organization(s) serviced is subdivided into subordinate segments which are supervised through one or more levels of supervision or is of limited complexity where extensive responsibility exists for outside coordination. Participates in the management of the office by applying a good working knowledge of the organizational functions and procedures in order to relieve the supervisor(s) of clerical and administrative support work.


GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training performing any combination of the following tasks: typing (letters, forms); general clerical (answering the telephone, receiving visitors, composing correspondence, filing, reviewing outgoing correspondence for grammar, format, etc.) stenographic (taking and transcribing shorthand). Experience using computer and automation systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify at the GS-06 level (PD#D0843000), applicants must have at least 9 months experience performing clerical or administrative duties in an office environment. Must have experience performing office functions such as, referring visitors, screening telephone calls and to route correspondence by name or functional area. Experience working independently and setting priorities with very little supervisory control.

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS: Military skill set is determined by AFSC requirements. Upon selection, individuals must be assigned to a compatible military AFSC in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations, guides and must obtain/maintain all requirements of the AFSC.

The compatible AFSCs for this position are: 3A1X1, 3DXXX, 3S1X1.

Military Grade: You must currently hold a pay grade of E-3 through E-7 with 3A1X1 AFSC OR E-3 through E-6 with 3S0X1 AFSC.

This position is restricted to current military members in the Wisconsin Air National Guard.

At a minimum, applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a favorable background investigation for suitability purposes for employment in the federal government.  Not being able to maintain a favorable background investigation may result in administrative action, including termination from employment.   


· Incumbent must maintain membership in the Wisconsin National Guard.

· For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

· For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

· The wearing of the military uniform and abiding by the customs and courtesies as prescribed by applicable military service regulations are conditions of employment.

· Employees will be required to participate in direct deposit/electronic fund transfer (DD/EFT).
